Default e94 color runs

I acquired my first few e94's from a bargain box at a show in the late 80's...for $2 each. One of which was this lime green murray card...shortly thereafter I picked up another color murray and decided to go for a color run. Little did I know/think that completing this run would take me over 25 years!!!!! And I'm still missing the orange!!!!! Thanks Steve for the elusive violet murray long missing from my run.

Makes Bob's master set goal seem ridiculous...and he's really close!!!!!!

I know it is just my eyes playing tricks on me but it looks like he is nodding his head.

This is awesome Pete! It makes me tempted to start a run. I know very little about E94, but from your post it sounds like I shouldn't bother trying to start one unless I find an orange one - good luck finding yours!

The orange is a pipe dream!!!!! I believe...and Bob can chime in...there are at most 1 known example of a player but I do not believe a whole set of orange is known to exist.

i think you should consider the oranges like t206 back collectors look at brown old mills. yes they exist and if you have one it's icing on the cake. but not really considered a must for a run because they are more of a one-off.

Really? Where is that rule stated? The thought is there was 1 sheet of oranges and that is why there is only one of each known. And when they do come up for sale they usually carry a big premium.

Scott - Very nice run!

Pete - Likewise, both your runs are great. Which do you think will be easier, getting the orange Murray or finding all the missing pieces for your Miller run?

For me a run needs to have every possible combination. Just because a card may be unique doesn't mean to just forget it. I would also count any known oddities such as blank backs or menagerie backs as being part of the run.

Interesting question!!!! And I agree that a run should have all possibilities to be complete. That being said the murray orange will likely be harder to obtain than the last 3 millers I need!!!!

Were oranges intentionally made, or were they simply a coloring error? There are orange t206 Cobbs known but they are considered error cards.

We will likely never know, Barry...and it doesn't really matter, right? Complete...is complete!!!!! Incomplete...is incomplete!!!

I know Pete, and I agree you should try to get them all. I was just curious how E94 collectors view the orange ones.

My personal take (and you can see I have a vested interest, from the Speaker post above) is that I certainly would bid if/when the orange Speaker showed up in an auction. But it wouldn't be an all-in break-the-bank scenario for me, since the orange color honestly for me kinda looks like a washed-out red and doesn't leap out to me as a "wow!" card. It may indeed be a unique variety, but I think I would appreciate it more if it had the orange of an E98, rather than what it is.

With these, I figure I have to draw the line somewhere. Many E94's have overprints, so is a back run not complete unless it also has every possible overprint known for that player as well? I've got 3 Speaker overprints, so maybe in my head that makes up for something else it may be lacking.

Would I like to add it to be complete complete? (And I know I still need olive as well.) Sure I would - but I see it more as a nice-to-have than an absolute must have.

My murray run is a color run...backs mean nothing to me in this endeavor.

Are there more than one of those grey background e94's?
