Default NL "Tener" Ball on Ebay

I could be wrong on this, but I don't think this is a Tener ball as is being claimed by the seller.

I don't think I've seen any YMCA balls stamped with the Tener stamping. I believe because these balls were used by the soldiers in WWI and not intended for game use in an NL game. Pretty sure that box opens there is no sig., and thus the seller is a bit off on the value.

You're likely right. I thought the same when I saw this listing a few days ago, and based on everything I've seen and understand about when and how these balls got a Pres. stamp, there wouldn't be one on the YMCA balls.

What I don't understand is the thinking that the reason the paper band has a diagonal tear is that the box was opened, YMCA stamp applied to the ball within, then the box resealed in the same time period using the same torn label, and an identical stamp applied to the outside.

Maybe that is how it was actually done, or maybe I'm reading the write-up wrong, but that makes no sense to me.
