Default Need help with this Lou Gehrig card

Posted By: Dan

Hi I just found this site and have found some excellent posts on here.I just purchased this card on E-bay and I have no idea what set if any this card came from.Hopefully it`s genuine and I didn`t get taken. Can anyone provide some info on this card.It is about the same width as an Exhibit card and slightly smaller and feels a bit thinner than an Exhibit "Which is what I collect".The corners look like they may have been rounded by someone with a pair of scissors so it may have had square corners at one time.I am mostly curious about who made it and when it`s value and anyones opinion on it. Thanks for any help with this. One more thing I don`t think this is an Exhibit card but if anyone has the Lou Gehrig salutation could they post an image of it since I have never even seen one and with a $2,000 book value I will probably never own one but it would be nice to actually see it.Thanks again.

Was the back scan of the card cut off? It looks like the upper corners are sharp on the back and the card face has four rounded corners.Nice pick up regardless.

I dont think its an authentic pre war card, & probably printed in the 70's or early 80's. However, I'm only going on the old gut instinct here. Also, here's a link to a Gehrig Salutation Exhibit.

Dan:

I found the picture below on page 136 of Bob Lemke's 2004 SCD Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards. (Bob, I hope it's okay to put this picture here...) You probably have a trimmed 1980 Exhibit card. The SCD says that these pictures were used on some original exhibits. I suspect, though, that yours is the 1980 version with the "An Exhibit Card 1980" trimmed off.

I hope this helps.

The 1980 Reprint exhibits were printed with that weird tint and a copyright line on the bottom that looks to be trimmed. I hate it when I give news like this...
