Default What is it? ...question about early baseball cabinet photo...

Guys.............Hello. I have this turn of the century baseball cabinet photo which shows some great equipment, but I'm wondering what the tall skinny, squared off object is between the two players? I've seen and own a lot of early cabinet photos, but I've never noticed one of these before. Any ideas? It has a strap with a button and a buckle attached to the top. Thanks in advance........Matt
