Default 1869 Peck and Snyder...... incorrect information

Posted By: leon

I don't know if this seller is a board member...and this is an ongoing auction but I am not too concerned about outing this particular one. My question is "where do these people come up with their information?"....there are more than a dozen of these known....and it didn't start it all...There is an 1868 Atlantics card....plus other "cards" issued before it...

Leon - could it be that there are less than a dozen of that style known? Regardless, I understand your point.

I hear ya...and maybe.....but I just get a little tired of incorrect hype.....sort of the way you are with the packs....(and I agree on those too)....another blurb of his description:

"LESS THAN A HANDFUL WILL EVER POSSESS THE HISTORIC MASTERPIECE THAT STARTED IT ALL..."

well, more than a handful already own them...even with red backs, though there is no way that is what he meant...and it didn't start it all.....just overboard hype, to me....not a big crime and not the worst thing in the hobby but tiresome....you know the deal....If I were selling mine I would say there are around 20 known and it's the 1st card of a professional team....which I think would be more correct.

Does the seller use the prefix "ultra" in his description at all, i.e. "ultra high grade"? To me, that's the real litmus test.

Jim,

I have to admit I thought I was pretty slick in eBay's early days when I worked that into my titles.

Oh... That was you. Sorry. No offense intended.

(I just did and Ebay search for "L@@K". It yielded 39,310 hits. It's much more than you.)

I can't stand that "L@@K"! I actually run my eBay searches to exclude that non-phrase. If some dealer has to annoy me before I even know what he's selling, I'll take my business elsewhere. I'd rather watch J.G. Wentworth's spin on Wagnerian opera a thousand times! "Customer leaving! L@@K!"

At some point in time, this card was officially considered the first baseball card. With that in mind, the "card that started it all" is not too entirely off.

You are correct. I have seen that card referred to many times as the first baseball card. It sort of is if you are talking about professional team cards...."professional" meaning all players paid. But the other hype combined with that just set me off that day.....It's certainly not the end of the world. regards
