Default Why did this T206 go for so much?

I am at a loss. It's a raw Sweet Cap 350 30. Non-HOF, non-SL-er T206. Is there some rare variation that I missing?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...vip=true&rt=nc

I will admit that I do not recall seeing him listed lately

Puzzling indeed. An ordinary common (I think) in low grade should be about $20.

I thought the same. I put $30 on it expecting to have money left over. It's a case of somebody having more money than knowledge maybe? I ran the recent sales and the slabbed ones did not go anywhere NEAR $605.

Default T206 Lindaman

I'm pretty sure the previously unconfirmed Sweet Caporal 350 Factory 30 back was the reason why it went for so much. However, if that was the reason, the buyer is NOT going to be happy when they get the card. I know that the seller included the wrong back scan in the listing - the back is actually a Sweet Caporal 150. The seller provided me with this information a couple of days ago when I asked for confirmation of the 350 series back.

Hopefully they can get a refund.

Steve

Even if it was the only known example from a factory, people are really willing to pay that much money for it? That seems crazy.

I think the answer is, yes, they are willing to pay that much for it. Crazy?....maybe, maybe not.

I would love to see the looks on people faces when you say, but check out the factory number on this Lindaman Sweet Cap. Pretttty cool, eh?

My first thoughts would be who's Vive Lindaman and whats a factory 30?

If that card was legit and you put it up for auction in one of the big auction
houses you could make a big profit off it at that price.

It can. I think there might be at least one well heeled collector (David Hall?) trying for a T206 super duper master set with every front back combination. Sort of a kin to someone doing a complete master type-card set. That would be craziness.

No worry. Talked to the seller and don't need to pay for it because of his error. I should have known better if he couldn't even spell Caporal.

Hey guys,

The unique factor regarding this Lindaman card is not about its Factory #....it is the SWEET CAPORAL 350 back.

The following 8 cards in the T206 issue are found with the usual 150 Series backs (PIEDMONT, SOVEREIGN, SWEET CAPORAL, and HINDU).

The only "350" backs these 8 subjects have been found with are the PIEDMONT 350 and the El PRINCIPE de GALES backs (EPDG) **.

NEVER with the SWEET CAPORAL 350 back.

But, this Lindaman that just sold on ebay contradicts this front/back pattern; and, is indeed "one of a kind".....if it's for real.

Having said that, I am somewhat skeptical of the authenticity of this Lindaman with the SWEET CAPORAL 350 back.

** Note ...... the Schulte card has yet to be found with the EPDG back.

P. S.......I just read some of the earlier comments in this thread; and, I agree with Steve C. (post # 6).

At least a complete master type set is interesting. A T206 master factory number set is strange. There are so many great things out there to collect, it's just odd to me that there are enough people out there doing complete factory number sets to drive the price that high. The card isn't even real.

Edit: I mean no disrespect toward factory number collectors.

I find it impressive that two or more people realized that this particular combination was a probable no print. Must mean they look at the backs of all the t206's listed on ebay to see if the combination is rare or possible. Maybe the $150 bid with 3 hours left drew some attention to it?

Tony, I was thinking the same thing - collecting the T206 set has certainly changed a lot in the last ten years. Hard for anything to slip by anymore.
