Default 1948 Bowman Unopened Packs

Just curious why no one is talking about the current Mile High auction. Certainly has to be one of the more impressive finds in recent years.

Something I am missing?

There are a couple threads on here about it. They did not receive many posts though. I would still love to rip those 59 Fleer Ted Williams packs.

How much would you pay to just open them? I mean, if opening them (but not keeping/owning the cards) was up for auction, what would you bid? Or for any rare vintage pack, I guess...

If I did not get to keep the cards nothing.

Although buying and ripping junk era wax is super fun and those cards are completely worthless.

A couple of things I don't understand. Why, if he saw the contents of the one opened pack, which is NOT included, wouldn't Brian provide pictures of the cards instead of just describing them?

Second, if as stated in the blog post Steve Hart had never seen an unopened 48 Bowman pack or box before, how can he authenticate it?

Agreed he should have shown the pack. Unless the cards are destroyed.

I would trust BBCE Steve to authenticate any pack based on the several tens of thousands he has viewed of others. He undoubtedly has seen other packs from bowman from other years close and also older packs so one pack style in between cannot be that different. The box could be a frankenstein of some sort, but even that would be impressive that the packs are all sealed.

+1

Skepticism is always healthy in our hobby but sometimes things just have the simple and easy explanation. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Well, I'm surprised nobody has posted the before pop report. Now that we know what was sent in, I'm sure someone has two month ago's 1948 pop reports.

Surely the cards have been graded by now.

Did Brian say which cards he saw? I missed that. And in any event surely he or the consignor are not the only people submitting 48 Bowmans.

I was told that the one pack had two Rizzutos and one other HOF but not a rookie and two commons. Apparently, one Rizzuto looked like an 8 and the other had a shot at a 10.

There was also a Spahn rookie in the pack. Original owner must have enjoyed the occasional brewski: http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com...ng-card-maker/

Default Slightly off topic, but I thought it was funny...

In a sign that the auction business is getting more competitive, I received not one -- but eight -- Mile High catalogs in the mail this weekend.

(Or the USPS just isn't concerned with sorting and delivery...)
