Default PSA compete sets

Posted By: Neil

Hello,

It seems to me that after reading multiple boards this is where the real experts chat. I have recentl soldmy buisiness and I have been intersted in set building for along time. BOth as an investment as well as a hobby. My question is simple. THe first seti am trying to complete is the 1970 Topps in all PSA grade 9. My question is this is this set worth more after I complete it, or is a set worth more broken up. I have bought and broken a few raw sets in my time and always made more breaking them. But from what I see it seems a completed high grade set is worth more as a whole on the high end auction circuit. I figured this would be the best place to get some advice.

Thanks in advance for letting me become part of your world

Neil

IMHO the 1970 set graded all PSA 9 would bring more money at selling time individually than as I set. I believe the high $ complete sets that have sold at auction recently have been primarily pre-war sets and would be much tougher to put together than a high-grade 1970 Topps set.

By selling the set intact you eliminate most buyers: [1] Those who haven't got a large amount of cash [2] Those who already are deep into the set- they're unlikely to buy a whole set just to get a few cards they need.

Best off to break it up and sell on EBAY. The extra work will pay off in the long run.

You can always offer a complete set for sale first and, if you get no takers, break it up.

How many mint 1970 Topps sets are there in Larry Fritsch's collection waiting to come out? 10? 100? 1000?
