Default PCL Angels pennants. Some guidance please.

Hey everyone, hoping for some help with PCL L.A Angels pennants. Posted a photo of the one pennant I know can be attributed to the PCL years. Are there any other variations out there? Thanks for any guidance!

This may not be much help but I know of only ONE SF Seals pennant. The Angels may be just as scarce.

Default Angels

I always believed this to be PCL but I see that Mike has it in his book as Major League.

WOW!! I've never seen this example before. I agree with you, has to be a PCL version. Thanks for the photo and info, I have a new holy grail!

I don’t know how you could know for sure, without photo evidence. The existence of a PCL and MLB team with the same name complicates things.

I would say the image of the stadium behind the player is a big clue that the pennant is a PCL one. The Angels played at Wrigley as a PCL team, until O'malley bought them and moved them to Washington, when he moved the Dodgers to LA. The Gene Autry owned Angels played one year at Wrigley, then moved to Dodger Stadium until the move to the Big A. So if that is not a PCL Angels pennant, it is an inaugural season Angels pennant.

I used to own one that was blue with red lettering, and the "LA" logo on it was in the same font as the one found on Angels' caps in the mid-1950s, so I know it was from the PCL. If I can find a photo of it, I'll post it ...

This isn't definitive proof by any stretch but my dad ran the shop that did design and printing for the first few years for Autry's Angels.

From what I've seen of the type and style of work that Autry preferred, I'd say that the original poster's pennant is definitely PCL, and Andy's pennant a few posts later is Autry.

My dad once told me that Autry definitely had a preference for cartoon character/caricature drawings in the art that was chosen for the early stuff they produced. They'd put together a bunch of proofs using photos and Autry didnt like any of it, ultimately going with cartoonier stuff.

Just two cents...like I said, isn't proof, and I wish my dad were still around - I'd show him and be able to know for sure. But maybe the info will be helpful.
