Default 1960 Topps Yankee Autographs - Finally Finished!

Posted By: Jon Canfield

Well, tonight my journey came to an end. About 10 years ago (when I was 15), I decided to try and put together an autograph team set of the Yankees from with 1960 Topps issue. I pursued the team set in my spare time, acquiring unsigned cards, and then writing to living players, meeting them at shows, etc. I was also able to slowly acquire some of the keys to the set such as the coaches card and the elusive Duke Maas. Well, tonight, thanks to eBay, I finished the set, finally acquiring Ken Hunt. This is the first opportunity I have had to purchase a Ken Hunt since I started the set. While I consider the set complete without the Stengel manager card or the Mantle or Maris all star cards, I may pursue them anyway over time. (I do have the Skowron AS card.)

Jon:

Tremendous accomplishment... congrats!

I would think that the Stengel Manager Card and Mantle/Maris All Star Cards would be tremendously hard to find, signed. Wonder how many (if any) of these even exist?

Regardless, that is one terrific looking set!

Thanks for the comments guys. As for the missing cards, I know all three do exist. I was the underbidder on a Stengel PSA/DNA authenticated 1960 Topps in the last Mastro auction. Also, I have seen both the Mantle and Maris signed all star cards. In fact, I believe there is a PSA/DNA authenticated Maris on eBay now but the BIN is a little high.

I really like that coach's card. Completed multi-signed vintage cards are always great to look at.

Not to rain on your parade, but I'm afraid that Maas is not right. Obiviously the toughest card in the grouping.

Jodi, no hard feelings regarding the Maas and I do appreciate and respect your opinion. The Maas came from a very reputable source so I am comfortable with it.

That was one of the funniest things I've heard all day. I do intend to cross all the cards over just for uniformity. However, I can assure you that the GAI slabs were from years ago.

Congrats on a super accomplishment. I bet you still get the "tingle" when you are able to finish something like this.....I know I do.
