Default Doing a favor/Orem and Courson

For George Vrechek *not that he knows me*

Regards
Rich

But he posted this on the SABR-L message boards -- and I think we have a better shot of getting him help from these boards

I'm a relatively new SABR member and I thought I'd try this group for any
help in trying to locate photos of Walter Corson and Preston Orem.

Walter Corson of Glen More, PA was born in 1900 and died 4/10/66. He played
in the minors for 8 years including a 1925 season in the Arizona State
League hitting .364. He got to spring training with the Yankees and played
against Ruth and Gehrig. He then scouted for the Phillies and Cleveland for
at least 8 years. In 1960 he published Better Post Card Collector. I'm
interested in a photo because he is in the Card Collectors Hall of Fame and
no one seems to know what he looked like.

Preston D. Orem of Altedena, CA was born in 1891 and died in the 1970s I
believe. He self-published a book around 1966 called Baseball 1845-1881 from
Newspaper Accounts. He added a chapter for each year thereafter through
1891, I believe. He is also in the Card Collectors Hall of Fame and no photo
has been found. Both members were associate editors of Jefferson Burdick's
1960 American Card Catalog.

I've struck out trying to trace the families or finding photos. --

**If I recall Leon's posts correctly -- Courson's son reads these boards -- and if we can help honour his dad -- I'm all in favor of that***

I will email Jeff Lowe, the son of Dr. James Lowe who is a nationally recognized postcard guru from way back. Walt Corson was a good friend of his. Dr. Lowe is getting a bit up in age I think...maybe mid to late eighties and last time I communicated with Jeff, which was only a few months ago, he said his dad was doing fine. regards
