Default Thoughts on this Ruth Auto

I have a Ruth auto looking for opinions! I signed up for the photo bucket but it doesn't seem to be working right. Here is the link.

I had one like this, that was rejected by Hunt's... they said that the letters should not line up on a perfectly flat plane like this. In other words, there should be some fluctuation at the bottom with some of the letters dipping below the others. Hard to explain in writing, but perhaps one of the "pros" would be willing to chime in here. I thought mine was good, until I submitted it (which was over a decade ago...)

If you want a professional opinion (without paying the full authentication fees) you can list it on ebay (even with no intention of selling it). Then you can request the PSA Quick Opinion service, which only costs about $7. That is what I would do for additional peace of mind.

Hope this helps...

That is the tallest second "b" in Babe I have ever seen in 20 years of collecting.

I think what Hunts is talking about is that Babe had a very vertical signature, up and down hard strokes and because of that the letters should not line up perfectly on the bottom like someone who has a smooth vertical style signature. Babe Ruth is one of those that I stay away from completely unless it is an autograph book or is from someone I really trust because there are just too many fakes. The one I have now is smudged and not the best looking example in the world but I KNOW it is real because of the way it was aquired and that is worth more than a nicer condition one any day.

I used the PSA/DNA Quick Opinion once on a signed baseball (likely genuine) and it was easy and quick. You get a web page & email that you can print out as documentation. I had purchased the autograph from a reputable source (Lelands) and was confident it was real, but wanted the Quick Opinion approval to ease sale. It was a tough modern signature (Dr. Mike Marshall) and figured some would appreciate a second opinion.

I have a similar one I purchased years ago. I thought I had done my homework but it still has been killed by PSA/DNA Quick Opinion several times. It does seem a bit to perfect with the way things line up.
