Default June Buy/Sell/Trade Thread

Posted By: Mark

Thought I would start up a June B/S/T thread... Since Leon gave it the "ok" a while back, we have not really utilized much.

Here are some nice vintage pennants... time to part with a few, as I must pay off some big bills. All are "priced to sell", as follows...

1. Phillies very rare "Blue Jays" logo c. 1940s EX w/minor soiling $119
2. Brooklyn Dodgers w/Ebbets Field graphic c. 1950s Nice NRMT condition! $219
3. 1940s Cleveland Indians Nice yellow Chief on brick red felt EX w/blunt tip $59
4. Rare 1952 All Star Game Pennant with great player images and Stars. Beautiful NRMT! $169
5. KC Athletics early '60s variation with Elephant. EX w/some typical cracking $39
6. Rare 1950s SF Giants pennant with Batter and GG Bridge. Almost never-seen variation. EX/MT, except for 1/2" slit near tip (hard to see unless looking for it) $69

Prices may be negotiable if buying multiples. If interested, please email me at imstroft@yahoo.com

can anyone guesstimate a value on this one I have?.....

circa 1940s Cooperstown Pennant

I picked it up at a charitable event (in January) - and may want to sell it at some point.

Any info provided would be appreciated.

A nice piece for the early Highlander or St. Louis collector. Clip from an album leaf, signed by Jack O'Connor (Yankees' first catcher, and an extremely rare signature), Bobby Wallace (HoF shortstop), and Heine Peitz.

Please contact if interested.

MacGregor Goldsmith trapper mitt. Nice leather piping, great patch, soft leather, there is a hole in the inside up into where the thumb goes. $29
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Group of three baseball photos. First image is 5x7 and mounted on a backer board. They did a crap job of trimming and mounting, but the image is clear. It's from the 1890s based on the pill box cap, quilted pants jersey with cuffs at the end of the sleaves and full collar. I comes in a nice black leather frame...oooooh.
[IMG][/IMG]

The Second pic is an neat 11x15 image (not mounted) of a group from the 20s or 30s. There are some creases. It comes framed with anti-glare glass...another oooooh.
[IMG][/IMG]

The Third pic is a 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 all star team pic from the 20s. One crease on left side, matt board is rough around the edges with one corner gone, image has some wear and isn't the clearest, but the equipment and unis are cool. Not framed...booooo.
All three for SOLD
[IMG][/IMG]

Very Early spider man mask with bent wire joints (not welded). Missing a pad and part of strap (I think). It could use a rub down with vasoline, but is a grea wall hanger. SOLD
[IMG][/IMG]

Nice early spider/spitter mask. No strap, but all pads in tact with surface wear. $79
[IMG][/IMG]

Heavy and large MacGregor spitter with ear guards. Nice patch, some wear to the pads, but all there. $89
[IMG][/IMG]

Rare solid bar mask. This is somewhat unusual in that the bars form a point in the front rather than a rounded shape. $150
[IMG][/IMG]

Large spitter missing strap, cut condition is strong. $59
[IMG][/IMG]

Real nice MacGregor mask. Superior condition. $85
[IMG][/IMG]

Nice Worth Official League ball in box. Outstanding condition. I also including Harwood ball box (no ball). $29
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Very desireable Frank Graham Brooklyn Dodgers book with dust jacket. This is a first addition. There is a small tear to the cover on the spine at the top that can be seen in the photo. Look at other copies for sale at Abe Books (note the copy without a dust jacket for $200).

I'm also including a fiction book with a GREAT cover depicting a catcher with readed shin guards. It has some dings around the edge, but nothing major. $159 (This is GIVING it away!!!)

I have for sale a team signed 1945 Jamestown Falcons, a Detroit Tigers affiliate, baseball. The ball is a Wilson Official PONY league (Penn-Ontario-NY) baseball. The ball is in great condition with no shallacking. Some of the more important signatures on the ball include:

Jim Levey - manager of the Falcons - an early Jewish baseball player who played for the St Louis Browns in the early 30s and played in the NFL for the Pittsbugh Pirates for 3 years starting in 1934.
Lilo Fano - Cuban Baseball Star of the Havana Cubans in 1946-47
Barney Hearn - lead PONY league in hitting with .352 avg and had later influence on the NY Yankees and the pony league.
Lyle Parkhurst- a member of the Chautagua County of NY Hall of Fame.
Ken Humphrey - Lead the Pony league with 162 hits

I am looking for $70 shipped for this ball.
Email me at kjjavic@aol.com if you are interested
thanks
KJ

There are 27 total signatures including Mantle and Berra on the sweetspot, and other notables on the side panel including Elston Howard, Dickey and Stengel. The ball contains not only the team, but also coaches (Dickey, etc.).

PSA/DNA notes the ball grades between 6 and 9 with medium toning. I would say this is very accurate. Mantle is one of the strongest signatures and appears boldly on the sweet spot. PSA/DNA had graded the Mantle signature a 7 but I truly believe it is even stronger than that. It is very very bold. Stengel may be one of the strongest signatures on the ball as well and is certainly a 7 or 8. Elston Howard is on the lighter side although very legible. I would grade his signature a 4-5. Ford is very strong - a 7 or so. Berra is also strong and I would grade him a 6-7.

The ball, itself, is a Wilson official league ball and not an OAL baseball. There is a few holes in a pattern on the Stengel panel. I believe this is a pattern as it appears to be in a circle and not due to some damage on the ball. Also, the signatures around the pattern appear to have been signed over the pattern also leading me to believe this was on the ball before signed. The pattern does NOT go through Stengel's signature at all.

Here are the signatures on the ball: Bauer, Berra, Byrne, Carey, Cerv, J. Coleman, Dickey, Ford, Grim, E. Howard, Konstanty, Kucks, Larsen, Leja, Mantle, McDougald, Morgan, Noren, Robinson, Silvera, Skowron, Stengel, Sturdivant, Turley, Turner, Wiesler and illegible signature (Gus Mauch - trainer).

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Price is $700 delivered and insured.

Really sad, and somewhat awkward answer to this...

Unfortunately the seller, Mike H. passed away a couple of years ago. He was a tremendous guy and a great friend. It looks like he was selling just the Harwood Box (and not the Ball). If there is another Harwood Ball listed somewhere in this thread, I simply missed it.

If this is the one, however, I just wanted to let you know...

RIP Mike
