OT: The True Spirit of the Holidays

As a regular lurker, and rare poster, I have to say that Mike's post about donating cards really touched me. You see, this is the first Christmas in a long time that I won't have a significant other to share it with. I got divorced this year, from someone i was with for nearly 9 years. As a result, I've had a hard time this Holiday Season. When I read Mike's and Richard's posts today, it made me think, that would be nice to do. And when I was out getting Christmas presents for my family, the whole time I was thinking about how the cards I sent those kids would mean more to them than any gift I gave my parents, brother, or friends. I know it sounds dumb, but that post has helped me remember what the Holiday Season is all about. It helped me realize its not how much you spend on someone, or what brand name is on the label, but its the fact that someone's thinking about you that should matter the most. So I want to personally thank Mike on this forum for helping me regain some joy this Holiday season. I can't wait to go to the post office with a box of baseball and football cards for Richard's elementary school kids (I'm a teacher so his post touched me). I hope this starts a yearly tradition for me and maybe a few of you as well.

Thanks again to Mike and Richard, and to everyone else who reads this. Not only have you helped a bunch of kids during the Holidays, but you've helped a grown up too.

Kids In Action wants to thank Ray for his generous donation to our after school program. We received the cards today, and the kids were suprised with the bonuses that you enclosed. They were very suprised that someone they didn't even know would do such a nice thing. They wish you a Merry Christmas, and they thank you for being a caring person.

I'm thinking of starting a thank you thread on Friday, when we go to the computer lab. Look forward to hearing from my kids then. I hope you liked our group photo that I emailed to you.

As I said before, that was probably my favorite gift to give this Holiday season. John Franco is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He signed for like 20 minutes the day I got that autograph. I'm glad to hear your kids liked the cards. They look like a great bunch. I hope we can do this again next year. Happy Holidays to you and everyone out there.

Edison Elementary & Kids in Action wants to thank everyone who donates to our school. The children all gathered around when the package arrived yesterday, and the kids were told why they received them. Some were in shock that someone who they didn't know could be so nice to them. Thank you Ray, and anyone else who donates cards to my children.

One of my first projects at Edison was having professional baseball cards made up for my Video Yearbook class, and my after school kids from Carver Elementary where I use to be for 13 years prior to Edison. There was 90 cards in the set. (I have uncut sheets framed on my wall in my computer room at home) The cards were designed by Apple Printing in Anaheim, Calif. and were printed by them using a half a million dollar printing press. (4 color press) There was over 18,000 cards printed! Each kid was given complete sets. On the backs of the cards, each child wrote 50 words or less their favorite things in life. Each child was also given 50 extra cards of theirs to autograph for their friends.
