Default Trivial Trivia Questions

I'll try this... Since 1903, when the first World Series was played, what team (and in what year) had the best record in all of Major League Baseball but did not even qualify for the postseason? This excludes 1904 and 1994 when there was no postseason. And... who was the only team (and in what year) to have a losing record and still play in the postseason?

I think the Cubs in 1909 with a record of 104-49

Don't know the other one.

While the first question HAD to come from the days when only one team made it to the post-season (WS only),
the second is just as obviously from much more recent times...though not quite obvious enough for me to remember them.

What I can remember...I think...is that the D'Backs or someone made it to the post-season despite having been outscored over the entire regular season.

Good Questions, Cliff

1981?

The Expos had the cumulative best record, but the season was divided into halves that year. Expos finished second both times, I think.

1981 Royals won the second half and made the playoffs with an overall losing record.

That is correct on the second question.

You almost have it but you have the wrong team.

That is correct. The Reds, Cadinals, and Brewers (even though they were still one of the eight playoff teams) all got screwed that year.
