Default Very Poor Ruth Leaf...but real?

Posted By: Billybaseball

Well...you guys provided so much help feedback on the Goudey that I have not avoided, that I figured I should see what you thought of this poor Leaf Ruth.

While I am a newbie to buying cards via the internet, I am not a newbie collector. I have a few, what I call "oooooooo" cards, in my collection. Most are not in great shape but I don't mind and in fact, often find them more interesting having been 'used'.

So that's why I was looking at the Ruth Goudey (I have a very beat up Goudey '33 Gehrig that I traded for at a card show many years back).

I will definely take all your advice to heart. For this card, I checked the feedback and it seemed to be all very new items that he sold. Of course, I only picked about 7 random ones to view so who knows.

Hey...do you think by posting this stuff here that I may end up driving up the prices on stuff I may want to bid on??
No worries...at this point the lessons being learned far outweigh being outbid.

Thanks!

For me at least, it's best if you post a link to the auction rather than just the image. I dislike being placed in an artificial vacuum when offering opinions on items.

Most of the items you are inquiring about are types of items that likely have already been noticed by interested bidders. I see no problem in you posting other cards you are interested, but it's likely best to keep the inquries in a single (this) post, for neatness' sake.

Billy, beyond as an indication of their knowledge of the material, feedback and return policy is useful to determine if you will have problems will the seller if there is a significant problem with the card. Everyone makes mistakes, but a good seller fixes a problem-- i.e. applogize and return your money promtply if there is an error. Even if the seller does not specialize in the material (sells antique French postcards or Buffy the Vampire Slayer memorabilia), but has an acceptable return/authenticity policy (inquire if it isn't specifically posted) and has strong feedback, it would seem that you are dealing with a fair seller. It's okay to contact the seller and get questions answered .... You might also wish to pay in way that protects you-- credit card, paypal can be of assistance.

Again, I think there is a difference in taking a chance on a $20 or $30 or even higher item (depending on your budget) than if you are about to place a $1,000 bid.

I appears that this card has been trimmed on the right side. The margin of white border is too small for a 1948 Leaf card. For a card in this shape, you would think that it could only be original.

Hankron,

As you asked, here's the link:

I think I've decided to pass on this for now. I don't want to collect cards from that are honorary cards. This one is post-Ruth-playing days, and I can find those type more recent and cheaper. I think the card itself looks cool, and perhaps it will end up being the "Ruth" card I get some day (i.e. can afford)...but for now, I'll look around at other parts of the collection that needs some new blood!

Thanks all. This is a very helpful forum.
