God willing, I can avoid going under the knife for a while, and start collecting again here soon.
Thanks Bill! I agree with you 100% on the Ruth. #144 is my favorite as well. Great pose and fantastic colors. Your WaJo is a great card too. Good luck on your health and future pick ups!

Here's the mega card in my modest collection. Possibly soon to be supplanted after an upcoming auction

Some beautiful pieces in here everyone! I'll toss in a bit of a modern piece that I like, due to the number of legends. It is of the James Naismith sport (shame on you NJ!), but I like it nonetheless

I'm more of a set collector, so it's harder to pick one card. I look for front/back combos that don't come up too often, and it's fun to take them out and see the result of all the time (way too much ) that I have put into searching. I took a couple pics when I visited my safe deposit box today.

If I had to pick one card as the centerpiece, it might be my e95 Cobb.

Not to ask too many questions, but how close are you to completing all the Zeenut sets?
There are 4 horizontal Zeenuts, one for each year from 1911 to 1914.

I am still missing the 1912 Baker card but here are the other 3...

This thread is amazing, and has lots of show-stoppers, but for whatever reason, Bruce's Duffy cabinet is my favorite thing that ever gets posted on this board. I drool over it every time.

Nor do I, Leon. Yours is a real beauty, too.

I am so tempted to sell my Harper and Trout rookies. Those would pay for about half of a nice PSA 2.5-3.

My wife bought this Cobb for me and I lost her 2 years ago. It will always be special to me. She shared my passion for collecting. What a special lady she was.

What a great Cobb!! My wife and I both collect together. Some of our best times have been involving the hobby.

Great stuff all!

Even in baseball I can't really make a choice because I don't have a marquee card. But prewar it would have to be one of these:

1920s Universal Surprise Box Ruth-Johnson-Sisler-Alexander:

Ty Cobb strip made with Exhibit PC art:

Exhibit and related strips of Jim Thorpe:

Default pre-war centerpiece ? Okay .

....not very clean nor bright but for some reason this Canadian 1936 World Wide Gum Hank is my thirties centerpiece ; what's weird is that this is possibly the smallest card I own ; my focus has always been "the big stuff" , from 1929 Kashin up to 1939 salutation exhibits and all the big-ass "R" cards in between.........but this little guy is the one that makes me smile...

Bill,

If had the Trouts and Harpers worth the big bucks, I'd certainly sell to fund the purchase of #144!

Since the National has had a few days of trading, buying, and selling, I'd like to give this thread a friendly bump. Any new collection centerpieces?

Not really valuable, but one of my favorite pre war cards. I love the Crawford image in the postcard. I had a few more valuable to share, but I couldn't get the upload to work.

Great cards everyone. Sorry, no scanner, but would be very hard to pick just one. Among the possibilities would be the following:

(1) 1907 Dietsche Fielding Pose Ty Cobb

(2) 1907 Wolverine News Cobb portrait

(3) 1939 V351 Ted Williams

(4) 1939 R303A Ted Williams

(5) 1923 Lections Babe Ruth

(6) 1931-32 Exhibit Ruth

(7) 1953-54 Briggs Willie Mays

(8) 1926-29 Exhibit Postcard back Jimmie Foxx

(9) 1955 Exhibit Postcard Back Mickey Mantle

The history of the game you can hold right in your hands!

Best to all,

Larry

Revisiting this thread has made me want to purchase a Ruth, Cobb and a Joe Jackson card for some reason? (I can only wish!)

Leon, will you reconsider my very generous offer for your E90-1 Cy unique football variation card. I dream about it, but that is probably not healthy.

Hi John
I will consider it.
Had the moons not aligned, and Heritage had my collection for sale at the time, I never could have afforded it. It is a big purchase (to me) which I have not regretted for a second. There some fantastic cards in this thread and thanks to everyone who has shared.
PS...dreaming about cards is not healthy, though I bet every hardcore collector on this board has done it!!

This is cheating a bit, but these four are probably tied for my favorite.

Raymond, the colors and the clarity on your 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth are truly at the top of the spectrum---spectacular, bro! A genuine Sultan of Swat home run of a card.

I would list a couple of my own mega-card favorites---but I don't know how to load up an image; my tech support son is sleeping off his shift. Besides, they're POST-WAR-1980 anyway. However, to quote a word from our Leon Luckey, they are most assuredly NOT "pedestrian".
