Default eBay seller International2013-2013?

Anyone have experience good or bad? Has 6000 feedback, 95% positive, but 58 negative in last 6 months. 15 in last month. Some negatives are scathing. Canadian seller. Feel free to PM me if you want to express privately. Thanks.

Great seller! Only downside is he charges sales tax to Canadian Buyers. Americans don't pay extra! He gets great, hard to find hockey items too. It's his full time job travelling Canada and buying large collections of cool stuff!

What is the nature of the negative feedback?

If it's the same guy/place, I have purchased from them and got lucky as he didn't list the sales tax in his post.

I have looked/watched some of his other listings but the sales tax part of it ruins it for me. He does have some nice stuff however.

He does disclose very prominently the extra taxes he needs to hit Canadian residents with.

I had a pretty crappy experience. I bought a few cards from the seller a year or two ago and when I got them they were not as described. One of the cards had a small tear and a couple of others had significant defects that they didn't disclose. They offer a refund, but you have to pay for shipping/tracking etc back to Canada which is costly. Not the end of the world, but I don't bid in their auctions because I feel like their listings are sloppy. - Robert Dixon

Guy may have problems, but it frustrates the hell out of me when people act like sales tax is an option and I'm choosing to screw them with it. I run a real business, and if you are in PA I HAVE to collect sales tax. I don't get that money, the state does.

Not me. I've bought some cool hockey stuff from them in the past, I'll look past the tax charge if they have something I really want. They run a lot of auctions, I've never had a problem with them.

If my purchases from him go as smoothly as the card you recently sold me here on BST I'll be thrilled. Thanks again for the great postcard.

I've got some cool lower grade stuff from them over the last few years. I've only ever bought raw cards and they always come in a plain white envelope with cardboard and stamps. Never had a problem, but it means you can't track your purchase. The last one took two or three weeks. I was just about to ask if they had mailed it when it arrived.

Inspired by njdunkin1's post on "Honest, unbiased thoughts from a member, i.e. current boards situation". Doing my best to positively add to the board.

Sylvain Martineau is someone I have bought many inexpensive and expensive (for me, $5K - $10K) items from. I will continue to buy from him. Here are my Pro's and Con's.
Pro's:
- He does come up with some terrific items that are hard to find
- Be assured that (to my knowledge), he doesn't doctor anything, and all his stuff would be legitimate.
- He does the legwork by touring Quebec, and other parts of Canada, and does the "sitting in a hotel, and bring me your stuff" thing.
- If he posts it, he has the item in hand
- edited to add: He buys items in any condition, hence sells a lot of off grade stuff (I see this as a Pro, as people can sell everything to one source)

Con's:
- He does huge volumes, and does not always accurately describe his items (crease can sometimes be missed)
- He overgrades, but IMO has been getting more accurate
- English is not his first language, so he can sound a little abrupt
- He has been burned by buyers, and leans towards the customer is trying to put one over on him
- If you complain, he doesn't take it well.

He also has a second ID, International 2015-2016 (or something). I'm not sure what the breakdown is, but I have thought one might be for cards, and the other might be for memorabilia.

I may have missed some things, but feel free to PM me.

As for the whiny folks who complain about paying Canadian taxes, suck it up; you pay those same taxes when you go to the mall. He does enough business that you know it's a legitimate business.

Still runs true auctions--starts everything at $1.99 and lets it fly. I wish eBay would get back to that. Look at pictures as closely as possible, as quite often flaws are not mentioned in the description. Try and return items at your peril--he is intolerant of that and you will be blocked.

I buy from Sylvain from time-to-time and I always have positive experiences with him. He always answers my emails in a timely manner and is very polite. The thing is, 95% of the stuff he sells is hockey (cards, programs, calendars, pins, etc.) So if you collect other sports, then you probably won't find him that interesting. However, sometimes he does list vintage baseball cards, especially the hard-to-find Canadian issues like the 1936 World Wide Gum and 1937 O-Pee-Chee cards. He travels around Canada buying up collections, so sometimes he does get his hands on some of these rarities. The only problem is that he overgrades a lot of his cards, so make sure you examine the scans very carefully before making a purchase from him.

Nope. A little frothy for me at the moment. Didn't go any higher than I thought it would (maybe a touch lower) but the card was pretty expensive. Doesn't come up that often but was a PSA 3 at best. Had mixed feelings on it. And the mixed reports on the seller didn't make me any more interested.

Even if he got 35 or 40, eBay killed him on fees.

ON that card the ebay cap on sales fees would have only been a few percent, I believe.

Hypothetically, if it went for 30 Grand, then Ebay and Paypal fees would have come to about $1620 bucks or so.

The fee cap on Ebay is $750 bucks, so you start to see your rates go down after your item exceeds $7500, or around $8350 if you have Top Seller discounts.

I don't have a lot of those types of items (I don't have ANY of those types of items), so I don't reap the benefits of those rewards. LOL!

Nope...You boys need the actual facts...

The ebay fees on a single card sale of $30,000 or even $50,000 is capped at $250 if you have a store. There is an additional 10% discount if you are a Top Rated Plus seller.

That $250 cap is reached on single card sales exceeding roughly $2,780. This applies to all individual sales the Sports Memorabilia category.

My bad, you're right. Had a hard time finding the breakdown on store fees. What I posted was for sellers without a store.

He must do stamps too. A ton of stamp dealers use stamps in bulk to mail stuff.

Mostly because they can buy it for less than face value. (we can too, but with less margin )

That's typically how I receive items from him.

In this case, the stamps cost more than the $3 item declared on the Canada Post label.
