Default ebay question

so here's my question; guy buys a $20 PSA card on ebay for $15 BO this morning. I email him and say hey I offer free shipping for $50; is there anything else you want? His reply

No thanks. In truth, I thought this was for the set because it says from Hockey SET... {in title} I wouldn't have purchased this if I had known. Picture and description obviously show 1 card

Every collector would know, this particular set would not be $15, that's beside the point. I would cancel his transaction and refund his money, I want satisfied customers; However, ebay punishes me if I cancel his transaction, basically it counts against me and I can lose my TRS status.

what would you do? How would you handle this? I have not responded to him yet.

Have him request to cancel the transaction.

I'd think you wouldn't get penalized if the buyer asks for an out.

Cancel and refund (if he has paid), as there is no penalty for cancelling a transaction at the buyer's request on ebay. What could be worse is if the buyer pays, you send the item and then he requests a return due to the item being not as described(for a made up reason on his end). Then you pay for 2 shipments and give a full refund....consider yourself lucky he wants to cancel it now at no added cost to you.

It happens...

Several years ago I had another copy of this same card for sale and someone purchased it for $25-30 or so...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1910-C113-Tu...gAAOSwBahVOsHe

As soon as they got the clearly identified tobacco card in the mail they sent me a nasty email saying I had been deceptive and they thought they were getting a real Isaac Newton autograph.

I asked them if they really thought they were getting a genuine ~$10,000 17th Century autograph of Sir Isaac Newton for $25 or so dollars and they got even more angry. Best to just refund and move on.

I believe the seller needs to initiate the Cancel Transaction in the Resolution Center, but in the reason for the cancellation, select the choice that it was at the request of the buyer.

You should have sent them a link to the latest Coach's Corner auction and let them know they have at least a half dozen Sir Isaac Newton autographs coming up in the next year, worth "in the thousands", but he might be able to win one for under a $100. Then he can pay for it with the signed Ben Franklin $100 bill he purchased on Ebay the week before.
