Default When did the first player signing events take place?

Ran across what appear to be fantasy player signing signs on eBay and it got me wondering when these type of events actually got started and has anyone seen other signs similar to these?

Ive heard pl ayers were readily available to sign in Cooperstown, but in the early 70s they started actually charging. Ive seen earlier photos of Ruth signing buckets of balls, but unsure if it was public.

Someone posted an article about a month ago discussing king jelly signing baseballs at a local bar before heading off to spring training.
