Default Does anyone know a collector with the initials RWB? Signed 1933 Goudey cards…

I’ve been an avid collector of signed 1933 Goudey cards for close to 10 years. I have over 200 of the 239 cards in the set signed.

Over the years, I’ve had many signed 33 Goudey cards that have the initials RWB written on the back of the cards. I’m curious, does anyone know RWB or the story behind this collection?

I’ve started the process of writing a book about my quest to obtain 200 different signed cards from the set. I’m trying to tell the stories, and history, of many of the cards that I own.

I started an Instagram page to show off my collection a little over a month ago and have made close to 30 posts. If you have any interest in 33 Goudey cards, give me a follow @signed1933goudey

Here’s a few photos of some of my RWB cards, do you know anything about them?

My given name is Reuben Woonsocket Barnacle and I used to collect those before my amnesia set in, so I'll PM you my address and you can send them all back to me. A wonderful gesture.

Might not be a person's initials but rather how they were signed or returned. RWB = returned with back? red, white & blue?

My guess is that an autograph collector acquired an original collection of these initialed Goudey cards, and the autograph collector utilized these cards to get player signatures after the fact. Is there a common denominator time range where these cards were likely signed (because of player availability/above groundness to sign)?

Seems like a neat puzzle to try to figure out.

Brian

Brian, good point! I've never seen any unsigned Goudey cards with these initials. I've handled several hundred unsigned 33's over the years. I even put together an unsigned set about 5 years ago.

Does anyone have any unsigned Goudey cards with these initials?

Just looking at a few of these, it looks like the players died between 1972 and as late as 1995 (Tony Cuccinello). So this has to be a collection from before the early 1970's.
