Default T3 Jennings on Ebay

Posted By: Kenneth A. Cohen

In the Ebay auction for a T3 Jennings, the seller characterizes the card as excellent. Nonetheless, the photo shows what appears to to be a pinhole. The seller says the card's in "pretty nice shape" and "not trimmed," perhaps trying to deflect attention from the appearance of a pinhole

I'm interested in opinions. I find the omission of mention of the apparent hole rather slimy, even though it's visible in the scan. Or is it simply good salesmanship? What do you think?
Ken

PS - Hope I'm not messing up by posting on an active auction.

I saw that too, he needs to call out the pinhole.

I don't have a problem with the omission. The hole is pretty obvious on the scan.

Card also has a pinhole at the bottom. Seller has 2 or 3 negs for poor descriptions and he responds to his bad feedback like a lowlife. Bugger can't spell worth a damn either. I need the Jennings but I won't be bidding on this one.

Pin hole? What pinhole? The seller didn't mention a pin hole.

Can't be a pinhole... not with that starting price. That's gotta be a spot on the scanner.

If he graded it as Poor the seller would not have to mention the pinholes. The
problem is he's graded it as Excellent, and I'm not confident it would grade
Excellent if it didn't have pinholes.

Whoever uses ebay can obviously see the pinhole, so lets not get so anal about him not saying anything about it. you can say the same thing when theres a t206 on ebay thats creased to hell and the seller says that the card is in great condition...

It's not anal retentive to point out that a card with two holes in it doesn't
grade Excellent. Just as it isn't splitting hairs to point out that a man with
two holes in his head probably isn't napping.

I understand non-collectors might call a worn card 'great' or 'swell.' However, considering
the volume of baseball cards this seller sells, I assume he knows the card grading
scale and knows that a baseball card with two holes doesn't grade Excellent. It's
apparent he wasn't using the word informally ("Hughie was a most excellent dude.")
