Barnes & Nobles Selling author signed books

Went to B&N tonight with the wife to do some Christmas shopping and noticed an entire section of books that are autographed by the author. The books do not carry a premium either, they are the regular price. I even got 10% off because my wife is a member of whatever discount club they have and I got another 20% off on top of that from coupons they mailed to us from being in their club. I picked up Sammy Hagar's cook book (for my sister), Rainn Wilson's bio, and David Spade's bio.

Found a list online of all the available books. My local B&N had all of these in stock except for S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. I saw all of the rest of these.

Maybe this is old news to you guys, but thought I'd post in case some of you didn't know. Seems like a cheap way to pick up legitimate autographs. And I did compare the sigs in the books to see if they were autopenned or stamped and they are definitely not, every sig I checked had slight differences. I also checked ebay when I got home and noticed that many of these books are selling online for double to triple what you can buy them off the shelf for. ie Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, Sammy Hagar....

Apparently B&N started this last year and the books are available starting on Black Friday. I could not find a complete list of last year's authors but they included Hillary Clinton, GW Bush, and Neil Gaiman.

I went in on Friday afternoon and got Elvis Costello, Drew Barrymore, and Jerry Rice but there were multiples of all listed above also.

I actually noticed a similar section in a Books-a-million I was in with my family about a month ago. I didn't look closely as the was there for my children but I did think it was interesting to say the least. Can't vouch for the cost difference though.

Went to my other B&N today and they too were out of SE Hinton's The Outsiders. An employee told me they sold out of that book right away on Friday. Did pick up BJ Novak's book and Mindy Kaling's book. You can get a good start collecting "The Office" signatures with a visit to B&N. Picked up Rainn Wilson's (Dwight Schrute) book a couple days back.
