Default Auto & memorabilia from lesser known player. And triple crown, what did it look like?

First, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

I'm trying to get hold of an autograph and/or other memorabilia that belonged to Eric Erickson who played in the PCL and the majors (San Francisco Seals, New York Giants, Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators) during 1914-1922.

After a couple of years fine combing the internet I still haven't seen anything.

Erickson is inducted in the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame.
Is it a good idea to contact them to see if they have any suggestions about where to find this?

What about contacting his living relatives, grandchildren etc. is this something that is recommended?

I'm not familiar with what is consider good or bad etiquette in these matters over in America
(I am Swedish, and a big baseball fan. This is also the reason for my interest in Erickson. He was born in Sweden)

I suppose it is different from person to person how such a request would be met, as it is here.

Basically I'm wondering what you guys;- who seem to have massive experience with these things - think I should do...

Also, another question.
In 1917, Erickson was awarded the PCL triple crown. I've been trying to find a picture of this trophy (if there even is one given, or if it is just a title given)
But I can't seem to find that.

Does anyone here know what such a trophy looked like, or even know of a picture of one? it would be great to see one!

Well met.

/Mattias

Mattias,

Eric Erickson was part of the Willard Chocolates card set in 1923. I have an image of the card below. He was also part of the Curtis Ireland Candy set from the same year, though I do not have an image of that card.

I have to imagine that his autograph is somewhat difficut to find, but should not be impossible. He lived until 1965, so as long as autograph hunters knew where to find him, and as long as he was receptive to signing through the mail, his autograph should be out there somewhere. Through the mail autograph collecting, even of lesser known players, was fairly well thriving for 20 years or more by the time Mr. Erickson passed away. Don't give up.

There were three other players who were born in Sweeden who reached the major leagues:

Charlie Bold played one game for the St Louis Browns in 1914. He was born in Karlskrona Sweeden.

Charlie Hallstrom played one game in 1885 for the Providence Grays. He was born in Jonkoping Sweeden.

Axel Lindstrom played one game with the Philadelphia A's, then spent the next 14 or so years playing minor league and semi pro ball. He was born in Gustavsberg Sweeden.

Best of luck in your search.

Tom C

MrMister,

While Eric G. Erickson's autograph is not real common, it is not unheard of
either. Although, aside from one example I am aware of in a dealer's inventory,
I have only encountered two or three examples (mailing lists, eBay, auctions) over
the past several years. Let me check to see if I have a duplicate in my collection.

Added: I found the duplicate. It is a personal check cut, attached to a vintage 3x5.
I purchased this item from Jim Stinson Sports nearly 10 years ago.
