Default Boxing Poster

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, but I could only find boxing in B/S/T. Anyway, I picked up this 1910 Sacramento boxing poster and I'm trying to establish a value for it. Can anyone help?
THANKS.
Alan

Might I suggest you contact my buddy Gary Schulz? He's quite informed on boxing memorabilia and a great guy to boot. Just email me and I'll be happy to supply you with his email address.

It is about 18 X 24. I'm at the office now but will post exact measurements tonight.
Thanks.

Hi Jody-

I'm a little technologically challenged and cannot find your email address. Anyway, here's mine: alanoconnor@sbcglobal.net

I appreciate everyone's help on this.

Alan

That's a decent size. It's two fringe contender type guys. Not well known but not completely unknown either.

You can see their respective records here:

and here:

Downfalls on this poster - If this is 1910 it would have been hard for this fight to have occurred. Mantell was in Sacramento in May but also fought in Pennsylvania 10 days after the date on this poster on June 30th. Not impossible to do but quite a feat in 1910.

As of now this fight is not listed on their records as having happened (Doesn't exactly mean it didn't happen, just that nobody's dug up the newspaper record of the fight yet). There IS a record of a fight between these two guys in Maine in 1911 but obviously that wouldn't apply to this poster. It would probably help the value of the poster if you could find actual proof of this fight having taken place.

Secondly, no graphics. The block lettering style doesn't draw a ton of interest from collectors, especially when bigger names aren't involved.

On the upside it appears to be in fanatastic shape and it likely is a one of a kind (unless somebody found a storage shed of these, which has happened before).

Here's an example of a poster that had a few surface of similarly well known fighters (maybe more so). Probably sold for a couple hundred a year or so back. Now it has trouble getting a $69.00 opening bid.

All in all I'd guess yours has an Ebay value of maybe a couple hundred if lucky, probably less if I'm honest. Maybe $250-$350 in a more patient retail setting.

Thanks Dave!
That's just the type of info I needed. The poster actually measured 16 X 22 inches and it is to my knowledge the only existing poster of this fight in Sac town. I did a little research in City Directories on the ticket sales outlets and they only coexisted in 1909, 1910 & 1911; and, "Monday June 20th" occured in 1910. I will research the old newspapers next week to get the boxing results. The local interest to me is the location, "The Old Pavilion" was part of the early California State Fair grounds which were torn town before World War I. I'll hang on to it for now, but may end up down the road trading it to a local boxing collector.
Thanks again.
Alan
