Default Hard Core PAWN

I was watching good old HARD CORE PAWN while trying to fall asleep last night.

In case you haven't seen it it's a ghettoish version of pawn stars that takes place on 8 mile in detroit.

While I'm not sure how much, if any, is actually unscripted...in this episode a smallish dude walks in with his large bodyguard offering to sell some old baseball cards he got from his mom.

Immediately one of the employees says I know all about those...those are t206 tobacco cards...problem is the condition sucks. They offered 100 bucks to which the dude's bodyguard intervened by grabbing the cards and leaving.

In actuality they were e93 caramel cards. There was a cy young...an addie joss...and a bunch of others.

I thought it was funny!

here are a few i used to posess!

I’ve been to that pawn shop. They have a small area where they film the show. For the most part, the rest of the place was a junk sale.
As for the show itself, how disrespectful the kids were to the dad. I couldn’t imagine treating my dad like that.

I have seen the show a few times. Anytime the daughter is on I just turn the channel. Her character is just way too over the top for me and I like binge watching reality shows because they are so stupid and obviously fake.

Default hardcore pawn

Did you guys know there was an episode that the son at the store was outright accused of stealing a '52 Mantle from a customer ?!?!? A guy walked in with a binder full of cards and you can see the Mick card on camera. Later on during the negotiation the card was "removed". At some level, entirely plausible.

That’s the back of a 1953 Bowman Mickey Mantle not a 1952 Topps Mantle in the binder in the video and it sure is a bright white, I’m thinking possibly a reprint or a counterfeit.

I used to watch that show but found it so sleazy that I had to watch some porn after just to clear my eyes.

I saw that one as well. It was the back of a 1953 Mantle for sure. I don't know about it being a reprint, we never saw the front.

All of these shows are scripted....even pickers...places/sellers are scoped out prior...that's how the experts magically appear.

The HC Pawn is indeed in a bad area...but have you been to Pawn Stars in Vegas? It was (has since grown but still sucks IMO) a super small shop which never really had shit on the shelves. Knew the HC family (same city) growing up...and worked with Rick to hire him to speak at a large symposium...both families leave a lot to be desired.....I will leave it at that!

They used to sell on Ebay. I once bought a fake 1948 Leaf Satchell Paige rookie from them.

Although it pains me to admit it, I also bought a counterfeit card, Williards Chocolate Cobb, from them. It sat raw until I decided to get it graded by SGC because I was suspicious; it was bogus as hell. I was embarassed and did not pursue it, sort of like a young girl who is sexually attacked and too chagrined to report it to the cops. These people are bad actors. The son reminds me of a vampire.

Except it's a fake show and as far as I can tell only person accusing the son of stealing the card is the guy that posted the youtube video you posted the link for. I went to the link hoping to see the drama actually unfold on the show ... now THAT would have been interesting.

Plus as others have pointed out, the card in the binder is 53 Bowman not 52 Topps.

And did I mention it's a fake show?

We had a reason to be up around Detroit last year and found ourselves looking the place up on GPS.

Once we arrived there - it was clear that this was a really "Bad Neighborhood" and the the place itself was fantastically Craptacular......

Can't watch any of them. Makes me sick. Proprietors and employees are complete know-nothings whose ego-driven confidence in their own non-expertise finds new heights with each passing season. All ego with nothing to back it up; not even tact or good manners. The ignorance and attitudes displayed by each and every one of them sets me off. Pretty sure some people featured on My 600 Lb. Life were easier on the eyes, too...

I wish I were more familiar with Muppet characters so I could chime in on their various degrees of toughness.

Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus (not to be confused with George Stephanopoulos) seem like they could be tough to beat, if due to size alone. Plus they would probably form an alliance.

But maybe they don't count as muppets?

Back to the subject. I watched HCP a few times. I would not go near the daughter without a body condom. When I saw her I thought of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) in "The Fast and the Furious" - "I smell skanks'. Who would have thought there could be a Caucasian hoodrat?

FYI - Carroll Spinney aka Big Bird was born in my hometown.

Harry Monster (no relation) is much tougher than cookie. He's so tough he rarely uses his last name.

Yes I know way too much about Muppets.

If you go to their website you can get a personal video from Les for $40. Don't everyone go there at once.

Regarding the Great Muppet Debate, my vote goes to Burt as the one you don't want to cross. True, he hasn't killed Ernie yet, but the man is a psycho THIS CLOSE to snapping. Look at his eyes, man.

Look at his eyes...

I thought there was just one Swedish Chef?

But maybe the chef uses they/them pronouns because it’s a Swedish language thing?

I think Los Angeles should finally get the National - they've got more square footage available:

Of course with the lovely weather in LA, you could set up a nice outdoor show like this one (free lodging included!):

You are right, of course, only one chef, but the way he wields his knife makes it seem like there is a coven of chefs. I would remind him however of one axiom: never bring a knife to a gunfight.

How about the businessman guy who keeps getting his soup order messed up by Grover? He could go off the rails...
