kind of interesting....never seen before....I thought the design seemed a little too contemporary to be from Louis' golden years so googled it, and sure enough the Joe Louis Milk Co. was in business until the late 60's...nice but do you have nonfat?

From what I've read Louis' was a greeter at a Las Vegas casino in his last years...as I recall was addicted to drugs and paranoid at the end of his life. In his prime however, he appears to have been a committed patriot as seen in this story I wrote on him:

I believe that Louis' signature is the most undervalued in the sports field. People are starting to forget about him. Very saddening.

Yes, the milk carton is vintage. The Joe Louis Milk Company was founded in 1954 (as best as records indicate), and was physically located on the South Side of Chicago. It stayed in business until the 1960s. The company itself played a major role in the Civil Rights movement in Chicago. Many grocery stories and supermarkets refused to shelve the product. Blacks in Chicago were very supportive of the product, but often had to travel a distance to find stores that stocked it. It is unknown how much of a financial position Louis had with the company. He had nothing to do with its operations. He was deeply in debt to the IRS at the time, and probably sold his name to the company for a pittance.

What a sad twilight Joe Louis had. Here are some pics I have of him refereeing a professional wrestling match.

Hi Larry,

I saw that listed on eBay and thought of yours right away. Since you mention Henry Yee, I thought you might find this thread from back in February interesting:

I feel like I have to say this every time Henry Yee's name comes up, but I have had dealings with him without problem and without any hint of shilling. And the wire photo I bought off him is 100% real. I'm not saying that there has never been any shilling because his photos seem to get much higher prices than anyone else,(still have never been shown proof of shilling) but this is the first time I've seen an accusation of fake items.

If we're going to go there how about offering up some proof please.

I am not convinced of the "fake" accusation either. The items I've won from him in the past all appear to be legit... Pins, photos, pennants and the like. Although he always throws a wide array of goods out there, I have never found Yee's offerings to be all that spectacular.

I do think there could easily be some shill (or other questionable) bidding practices, however. Without apparent logic or reason, the items he sells continue to garner far more bids, and outperform other pieces of equal or greater quality. I've never underdstood why...
