8) Send kids to college
9) Weddings for daughters
10) Get divorced
11) Get remarried
12) Loose your job

Although I simply assume that you will lie on this short quiz, please ask yourself the following:

1) Have you ever felt remorseful about postwar purchases?

2) Do you associate with people you normally would not, simply because they believe the 1869 Peck & Snyder Red Stockings cdv IS a @$#%*& baseball card?

3) Do you get angry when people discuss Rabbit Maranville?

4) Have you ever tried to control your addiction by swearing off the Monster, only to find yourself again having the "New Plank Variation" nightmare?

5) Have you ever bought more N172s than you intended?

6) Do family quarrels ever begin over slabbing?

7) Are you uncomfortable in social situations where there are no T3s?

8) Do you know offhand the location of the 2008 National?

9) Does your spouse? (If so, simply discard this test and sacrifice a virgin lamb in gratitude to the deity of your choice).

10) Have you ever lied about the N162s you "used to have"?

Give yourself a single point for each Yes.

How to interpret your score:

1-3: You're here by mistake. Do you have any low grade T210s by any chance?

4-6: You are in the middle stages. It's too late to help you, but you can still have fun. Go bleach some reprints and plant them in your attic for your rotten grandkids to find.

7-10: Welcome home.

Hi Darren!

Net54's preamble: Most of us have been unwilling to admit we were real card addicts. No person likes to think he is bodily and mentally different from his fellow. Therefore, it is not surprising that our collecting careers have been characterized by countless vain attempts to prove we could collect vintage cards like other people. The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his vintage collection is the great obsession of every abnormal collector. The persistance of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity.

We learned that we had to concede to our innermost selves that were vintage card addicts. This is the first step in recovery. The delusion that we are like other people, or presently maybe, has to smashed.

We vintage card addicts are men (and woman) who have lost the ability to control our addiction. We know that no real vintage card addict ever ever recovers control. All of us felt at times that we were regaining control, but such intervals-usually brief-were inevitably followed by still less control, which led in time to pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization. We are convinced to a man that vintage card collectors of our type are in the grip of a progressive illness. Over any considerable period, we get worse, never better.

Just remember,

My Dr. Sanderson here at Chumley's Rest, feels that there is nothing absolutely wrong with allowing an outlet for your inward challenging expressions.

The hunt for the card.
The need to fill a slot.
The joy of winning an elusive card on eBay, regardless of grade.
The depressions that come when you miss out on one. (it was slabbed anyway)
The confusion as to what side of the Sado Masochistic coin you're on.

God give me the serenity to accept that I will never complete The Monster.
