Default can anyone recommend good paper stock for making baseball cards?

Posted By: esan

I cant seem to find any paper stock over 110lb and that seems to be way too flimsy. I am hoping someone on here makes their own cards a lot and may have a good recommendation.
thanks!

I can only offer advice on paper stock for calendar prototypes. Cards are out of my realm.

Someone other than me can better answer that question, hope it gets answered for you.

I happen to be a collector of baseball cards... and I'm interested in seeing your end results, please sir.

Thanks.

Try contacting Trae R. (another poster on this board). He recently did a great job in re-creating the backs of t206 cards and as I recall, had the same problem in tracking down the right paper to use.

I'm looking for the following calendar cards from 1930:
Ruth
Gehrig

Any chance you have some of those?
thanks!

My Gehrig 1930 calendar card was sent off for grading. When he gets back I'll send you a scan... I have the Combs calendar card, if you're interested.

Guys,

I hate to say this, but do you realize that counterfeiters might be lurking on this forum. They could be logging on to find helpful hints, maybe it would be better to correspond by e-mail.

Peter

first off, whats a calendar card? second, if I dont know what paper to use, most likely I am not gonna make counterfeits to sell on here as pretty much everyone on here could tell what a fake and what a real one looks like.

I have found the skinning authentic T206, T207, & T205's, gives just the right quality of paper needed to make your own baseball cards.

Daren,
I am thinking the calendar card went for 32K but then something tells me 122K.
It was about a year and a half ago, maybe some of you in the east remember...I only heard about it originally because it went through a good friend's hands at a hobby shop...the guy who discovered the card was asking about value and no one in that area had seen one before...
Maybe someone has more of the story, including where it is now.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if I was going to make my own cards (like for a little league team or something) I would use one of my 10,000 1990 Score cards and paste a new picture on the front:)

Brian, they're being sarcastic. The Ruth has been discussed at length here on the board and the ensuing litigation has been aired publicly as well. The card sold for around $18k.

Sean, I hope I've helped you with my answer via email regarding the paper stock. As I mentioned, I printed the backs below on 16pt stock. I know your intentions are good and I don't think simply explaining the weight of a paper is going to fuel any scammer's counterfeiting operation.
