Default Connie Mack

Monday, December 22nd is Connie Mack’s birthday. In honor of that upcoming event, I would like to start a thread on All Things Connie Mack with one of my favorite uniforms. This particular offering (1950 A’s road jersey) as a function of color scheme and patch commemorates his fifty years at the helm of the Philadelphia Athletics and his Golden Anniversary.

Here's a press photo of Connie Mack at the Yankees Old Timers reunion in 1950.
Arlie Latham was 91, Connie Mack 87 and youngster Ed Barrow was a mere 82.

Sweet jersey Dave as usual. Wish I had something to add.

Default Wirephoto & 1915 AJ Reach Co. Envelope

Not sure of the occasion but I liked this image on an old Connie admiring an image of himself from his younger playing days.

Great thread idea, and sorry in advance for the sideways pics. The iPhone randomly puts some on their side, and rotating/editing is apparently not an option.

Hopefully, it's better than not posting at all...

Default Connie Mack postcard

Here's one of Connie's rarest postcards. The Evening Telegraph issued it in around 1913.
A postcard of Charles Dooin from this two-card series is shown alongside this one at http://www.sportingoregon.com in the Unusual Postcards gallery.
Please contact me with any postcards you have to sell or trade. Always buying!

Gorgeous uniform, Dave. And, as always, great stuff being shown here.

I saw this in an antique mall in south NJ a while ago. I didn't buy it because it was priced to high for me But it struck me as being such an unusual, "one of a kind" item.

I especially liked the full name signature. How cool it must have been to say that your business was the "American Baseball Club of Philadelphia".

Default Mack on the West Coast

Incredible items from Mark S. (uhhhh....not shocking), and terrific items from others, including Jeremy's stellar 1897 cabinet.

Mack's A's played Spring Training games with PCL teams in the early 1940s, at Anaheim and other California spring training locations.

Here he is with:

1. "Kewpie" Dick Barrett, Seattle Rainiers
2. Arnold "Jigger" Statz, Los Angeles Angels (Thanks again Dan B.)
3. Joyner "Jo Jo" White, Seattle Rainiers

Also, an A's team ball, and a 1943 Mack-autographed program.

Ad piece, imo. A blotter won't (I can't recall any and I collect them) have writing on the back as it would quickly be ruined by ink. Great piece....and I am your man if you ever want to part with it . And here is actually a very tough card. I am not sure I have even seen one other though I am sure they exist. Great thread, btw...../

I shared this thread with my co-worker today who got a kick out of it. He is originally from the row houses in Philly. His dad named him Timothy Cornelius McGillicuddy....last name. When he started at my section a couple months ago he introduced himself with his full name. I said "Oh, your named after Connie Mack." An instant friendship was formed that day.
