Default LOS ANGELES / GLENDALE SHOW April 20-22

There will be a show this weekend at the Civic Auditorium (1401 North Verdugo Road) in Glendale California (Los Angeles suburb). Hours are Friday 1-7, Saturday 10-6, Sunday 10-4. A good selection of material (graded and raw cards, memorabilia, mixed sports, etc) will be on hand (about 80 tables). I will be set up with Roger Neufeldt and both of us will have a selection of mostly vintage (40 years old or older) material. Stop by & say hello

Marc and Chad,

Looking forward to the show. I'll be attending on Saturday, probably
shortly after the show opens.

I stopped by the show today and was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me of the shows in Glendale my dad used to take me to in the early nineties, lots of vintage.

It was cool looking at cards and meeting/talking to Mark Macrae, even got a couple Zeenuts from him. If your in the area, it's worth checking out.

NIce to see the many familiar faces (including Adam, Anthony,Bob, Jason, Josh from the board) and meet quite a few new guys (Matt, Len, Pete, John) and many others. I think I spotted Erik briefly, but it was at a point when I was particularly busy, so I hope you found some material for your collection.... Extra thanks to Bob Givens for busting his a$$ and putting together a great show at an equally great venue... Hope to see you all at his next show in the fall...

Lots of fun, best part of all was hanging out w/the assorted knuckleheads I only get to see at card shows. We gotta do this more often...how about Baltimore in early August?

One fellow who was there was Pete Bonfils, who is the permanent lefty BP pitcher for the Dodgers. He set up with a massive $**tload of Dodgers stuff, mostly signed, and also a ton of cards signed by the Dodgers various opponents from the 1960s when he was a batboy. His booth was right next to the walkway to the bathroom and every time I went to take a leak it cost me $200! It was like walking through a casino to get to the can--you just know you're gonna drop some money on the tables on the way back.

Here is a link to an L.A. Times story about him:

I made it to the show Saturday morning and saw several members of
the Net54 clan in attendance. My apologies to all for not staying longer
and chatting. I was pressed for time and didn't have the allotted time
I would have liked to say hello.

I did give the floor a quick walk thru and was very impressed with the
material. Of course, I had to stop at Memory Lane's table and glare
at their T206 Wagner! As usual, Mile High was set up and they had an
an assortment of high end material. Exhibitman, I too saw Pete Bonfils
table and was amazed at all of his Dodgers material. I almost picked up
a nice Vin Scully autographed postcard, and truthfully, now regret I
didn't get it!

Hopefully next time around I'll have a bit more time to talk and shop.

Default Vin Scully Postcard

Postcard shows Connie Desmond, Red Barber and a very young Vin Scully.
He wanted $150.

I went on Friday early. I bought a couple dozen scored scorecards from Pete. He was a super nice guy. I'm not an autograph guy, but he had some pretty amazing stuff. Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Roberto Clemente, etc, etc, etc. He had everybody. Stuff that he got signed himself. It was a feeding frenzy at his table as people discovered him. I was sitting behind his table going thru his scorecards & programs, pulling out the scored ones and enjoying the fact that I always start in the back corner at a show.

I shared a couple of tables with Adam, Mark Hellman and Bob Dimand and it was definitely worthwhile, even though I was only there on Saturday. It was the first time I'd had a table since the very first National when I sold off my collection I'd built up as a kid.
They do need to do a much better job publicizing the show as at one point in midday there were more people behind the tables than in front of them.
Pete had some incredible stuff, I felt bad for him as he clearly didn't want to sell anything but kept saying he had to.
It's nice to have a show in town after the loss of the HP show and hopefully the attendance will pick up.

I was there for a couple hours Saturday and had a great time. I picked up a couple cards from Mark and he threw in some memorable anecdotes for no charge. Erik, I too was tempted by the early Vin Scully postcard. That guy had some fantastic stuff. I recently watched the movie, "For the Love of the Game," again just to hear Vin's voice ...
