Default John Tiedemann's cards

I received a nice email from John Tiedemann's grandson, Art, earlier today.

He is looking for info on this grandfather's cards, which he then can share with his son. He found my website, and I provided some links and info to assist him in his search. I thought it might be cool to start a thread with his cards, and I can then email him a link to the thread.

I'll be glad to start the process with images from my collection.

I know that John Tiedemann is also in the D310...D311, and 1912 Zeenuts sets as well. Hopefully some of the other boardmembers can share other images of John Tiedemann on these cards or any other sets or photographs.

Thanks for helping in advance!

Patrick

Patrick - Is this the same Tiedeman that appears in the T209-2 set? If it is, I will scan my card and show it. Also, I note that you spelled his name with two "n's," whereas there is only one "n" in his name on the cards you showed - which is correct?

Default Tiedemann is the correct spelling

Hi Val,

Tiedemann is the correct spelling. Although John did play in the Virginia League, my understanding is the player in the T210 set is outfileder "Vincent Tydeman." Here is the link on Baseball Reference.com.

Thanks for responding,

Patrick

Patrick - Thanks for the response, info, and link. However, I really was refering to the T209-2 Contentnea set, not the T210-2 Old Mill set. I'm pretty sure the card below depicts your man, as he played 27 games for Norfolk in 1910, per Baseball-Reference.com. And, a prevoius owner even wrote on the back of this card that Tiedeman (sic) is a catcher.

Default Tiedemann

Always neat to help out a relative of a player. Here is the D310 Pacific Coast Biscuit on the left (note how it utilizes the same image as the smaller D311 card), and his 1912 Zeenut on the right.

Brian

PS: My loved one, who usually thinks all the ballplayers I collect are ugly (she doesn't even think much of Christy Mathewson, for crying out!) made the comment that Mr. Tiedemann was an attractive fellow.

Default Thanks Val and Brian!

Thanks Val,

That is John Tiedemann in the T209-2 set. Thanks for sharing. I don't think I remember ever seeing that card before. Now I know which T209-2 I want for my type collection!

Thanks Brian for the D310 and the 1912 Zeenut scans.

I think Tiedemann may have also been in the PCL pin set. He had quite a few cards considering his career was so short.

Thanks for the images. I'm sure his grandson Art will enjoy the scans!

Default 1912 PCL pin

My memory wasn't as bad as I thought it was regarding Tiedeman being in the 1912 PCL Pin set. Here is the scan of the pin.

I don't have anything to contribute, but wanted to say that this is an excellent thread. It was educational to me & I wish Art the best on his mission here. Beautiful cards (and pins) as well !!!

Sincerely, Clayton

Default Glad you enjoyed the thread

Hi Clayton,

Glad you enjoyed the thread. I'm hoping Art Tiedemann was able to see the thread. He mentioned that he was going to set up an account this weekend, so he could view the thread. Hopefully he didn't attempt this when the site was down.

Default Many Thanks

Patrick and others,

Thanks so much for all the images and the pins are really impressive...It is like I am looking at my father. Unfortunately, I never new my Grandfather, John Tiedemann (proper spelling). He died long before my birth, I am told he "gave up" after his oldest was killed in WWII. I hope to share these images with my dad...he had a couple of low grade cards when I was a kid, but many of these I had never seen, particularly the Norfolk card. Thanks again, you guys are great.

Art Tiedemann

Art,

Glad you finally stopped in. Thanks for sharing as well. I'll let you know if anything else regarding your grandfather turns up.
