Default Blazek Buys Wagner from Mastro- 1974 (old hobby thread)

In going through some old, huge piles of hobby pubs I found this one. Since Wagners seem to be of some interest we can start with it. I will post more every now and then. If anyone else wants to post any, the more the merrier.

I'm not sure but I know he sold his PSA 5 from his private collection about 7 or 8 years ago.

Iggy, thanks for the great story. Hard to believe Mike Wheat was being given a hard time about being "too old" to collect baseball cards 32 years ago! Wonder how old he is now?
As for the Zimpelman collection:

Default Buck and friends

We have all heard the name "Buck Barker" in our conversations in the hobby. He was certainly one of the all time greats in the hobby. So I thought showing this, with some other notable collectors too, would be appropriate...

Wow, that's me!

What a surprise - I don't think I've ever seen this issue of "Sport Fan" before, but that's probably faulty memory, since I did subscribe to it back then.

I'm in the second picture from the top, the one with three guys holding baseballs. I'm on the right, the guy in the middle is Bill Zekus, I don't recognize the fellow on the left.

I'm not sure what these photos have to do with the T206 story, unless Blazek and Mastro are pictured (I knew Bill back then, but don't recognize him in the pictures). I'm sure these photos were taken at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown (at least the bottom three were), during Induction Weekend in 1974. Bill Zekus and I were there, and the fellow wearing a tie in the photo on the right is Whitey Ford, who was inducted that weekend.

Default nothing to do with the Wags

The last photo doesn't have anything to do with the first one except they are from the same periodical albeit different issues. As the title of the thread also says...." old hobby thread". I am going to keep posting some old hobby stuff in this thread. It might or might not be from this periodical, which I have some other issues of, but it will be old hobby related stuff.

Tom- how neat is that to see your picture from 36 yrs ago? (I loved the other recent, old hobby thread too)

The guy with the bow tie in the bottom left picture in the first paper could be Marvel icon Stan Lee's double!!!!

Default Edward Wharton-Tigar

I have quite a few pieces of correspondence and checklists from EC Wharton-Tigar. I am not sure if I want to do a thread of all his stuff, though I probably will, but here is a sampling for now. What were you doing 48 yrs ago?
