The trimmed PeeWee Reese might be the only legit card in the lot.

I'm not one to judge, but you claim to know nothing of the hobby and then throw out some of the most marquee prewar cards out there. Could they be real? Possibly. Like Dan stated before, the Pee Wee Reese is horribly trimmed so yeah... possibly. But for the rest... Not so much. Your Ruth Goudeys have green bleed on the back that isn't evident on other graded examples. You have a 48 and 51 Bowman example, and those are two of the most reprinted sets on Ebay. Paige's rook, Delong Gehrig, and a 38 Goudey Dimaggio. Come on!

Possible?
Yeah.
Likely?
Yeah No.

It is not Paige's rookie card but you can compare what a real one looks like.

The no. 144 Ruth looks like it might have had "reprint" erased from under the words "Indian Gum" on the back while the no. 181 Ruth looks like it might have had "reprint" whited out from after the words "Goudey Gum Co." on the back.

All I know is that these cards better not show up on eBay being represented and guaranteed as 100% original, saying they were found in Grand Pa's attic (or any other dead relative for that matter) or have "God bless" anywhere in the listing. Because if they do, they will SURELY be reported as fakes and THIS post will be referenced.

David

You can tell the #144 Ruth is a reprint because there's no space between the top of his hat and the top border. If it were authentic you'd be able to see a small strip of yellow above the cap.

Its pretty obvious where the word "reprint" was rubbed out below the words "picture cards" on the Williams Bowman. Same with the DiMaggio lower reverse although it's less obvious. I concur with Dan that the Reese might be real.

I concur with the others - the Reese appears authentic, but is severely trimmed. The others are bad reprints.

Not authentic, except for Reese.

Illuminate the backs with a black light, all will fluoresce except the Reese card, I think. When you see them glow, you'll know they're reprints.

Tell us how you acquired them, please. Sometimes that can be a clue toward authenticity.

A genuine 1949 Bowman Satchell Paige would have a gray back with red and blue print. Yours is white with black print. Looks like just about every card there is a fake.

For me, the most obvious sign that they're fakes is that each card (except the Reese, which looks real) has the exact same perfectly rounded corners ...

Uh Matt, the cards shown (with the exception of the very badly trimmed and worthless PeeWee Reese card) are all fake. If the guy who posted these backed out on a sale with you over these cards who could blame him?

Those are some of the worst fakes I have seen in a long time! Did you make them yourself Matt? Funny that you are trying to publicly criticize someone for not wanting to buy your stuff when it is all homemade junk. Mr. Regan is lucky he came here and didn't just take you word for it.

Matt, you saying we have been scammed just as you have by this guy is one of the funnier things I have ever read! Imagine that a scammer being scammed -- Oh! The Irony!

You wanted us to be aware of the people who wanted information on your cards so that we could know that they don't want to buy your fakes???

This is very confusing.

Funny how he mentions that some of the 225 may be fake, but when he scanned a small subset, they all were fake except for a trimmed worthless one. Geez, you'd think he would at least scan the best ones. Or maybe he did.

Now that he knows they are fake, if he didn't know before, if he sells tham as real he can be arrested for fraud. Maybe worse if the sale goes for over $500 (or whatever the felony minimum is).

And, did he just slander the original poster?

"Are these cards fake?"

"Yes, they are. Bad fakes."

"You're right, they are fakes. You've been scammed."

"But I just said that they're fake."

"And by pointing out the obvious, you've been scammed."

"How?"

"What's you're social security number?"

"I'm not giving you my social security num.."

"Hah! Scammed you again. You fool."

and with apologies to Monty Python:

NARRATOR: The Tale of Sir Collectalot.

FATHER: One day, lad, all this will be yours!
ERBERT: What, the curtains?
FATHER: No, not the curtains, lad. All the cards that you can see! Stretched out over the table! This'll be your inventory, lad!
HERBERT: But, Mother--
FATHER: Father, I'm Father.
HERBERT: But Father, I don't want any of that.
FATHER: Listen, lad. I've built this collection up from nothing. When I started here, all the kings said I was daft to build a collection of cards that everyone with any expertise knew were reprints, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. An' that's what your gonna get, lad -- the strongest collection of reprints in these islands.
HERBERT: But I don't want any of that -- I'd rather--
FATHER: Rather what?!
HERBERT: I'd rather... just...have authentic cards...!
FATHER: Stop that, stop that! You're not going to have authentic cards while I'm here. Now listen, lad, in twenty minutes you're going to make a post on N54 in front of some of the best known experts in baseball cards around to ask if these reprints are real.
HERBERT: But I don't want to make a post.
FATHER: Listen, Alex,--
HERBERT: Herbert.
FATHER: Herbert. We have a pile of worthless reprints. We need someone, anyone besides us, to say theyre real so we can plausibly deny they are fake when we list them on Ebay.
HERBERT: But I don't like committing fraud.
FATHER: Don't like fraud?! What's wrong with fraud? You make lots of money off of greedy morons and then you can afford a prostitute whos beautiful and with huge... tracts of land.
HERBERT: I know, but I want a girl to want me for honest reasons, not because I can pay her...
FATHER: Cut that out, cut that out. Look, you're makin the post on N54 and selling this dreck on Ebay afterwards, so you'd better get used to the idea. [smack] Guards! Make sure the Prince makes that post on N54 and doesn't log off until I come and get 'im.

Easy one....

The 51 Bowman Williams is missing the last line of print on back and this is where the word reprint was erased. The R319 Ruths have had the front picture area cropped, notice the top of the hat (#151) is cropped and the "G" in "George" (#144) is to close to the border. The R333 Gehrig has the wrong ink color on back and the border is way too wide. The 38 Goudey DiMaggio should have the border and background the same color, etc. etc.

The Reese might be authentic and worth $5

PS If the guy you say is a so called collector of vintage cards and not a newbie he better buy a book and read some. These are the easiest of all reprints to ID (by far).

Danny,

Don't take too much too personally. Where did you get the cardboard? Craigslist? At the flea market? From some guy who said they were found in a wall that was being repaired? If you haven't bought the cards then good for you. If you bought them then you've probably figured out that they're not real. It sucks when people try to peddle this crap on people that don't know that they're poor reprints.
