I believe it would have been a 1921 E220 National Caramel.

This is my Pennock example- (obviously not his rookie)

As far as I know, it would be one of the American Caramel / National Caramel issues: E120, 121, 122, 220.

I've searched for years for anything of him with the A's. I don't think it exists.

Not sure what his rookie card is, but here is an early photo (possibly rookie year) with the A's from his personal estate.

If memory serves me correctly, in the William Patterson set there is a photo of Pennock as an A but it is listed as someone else on the card, Hoyt maybe?

I don't have any cards to add, but I was surprised to find out recently that Herb Pennock was the highest paid major leaguer in 1934 with a salary of $55K

WOW!!! A pretty beat up PSA 1 Pennock E220 just sold on e-bay last night for $404.99. I thought my snipe was pretty safe at $399.99. Anyone claim responsibility for this?

When it comes down to it, the underbidder should always shoulder the blame for how high a price a card eventually ends. If the winner of this card had instead had placed a $250 bid, he would have been to 'blame' for the card ending up at $255.

Underbidders of the world unite and rejoice at our incredible power to drive up prices!

Brian

Good point. As one of my favorite auctioneers, John Burk, says "underbidders are often unnoticed but not unappreciated"......It always takes at least 2 to drive a price in an auction format.....

Thanks, your's is a lot nicer than the one that sold on e-bay last night. A very tough card to find in any condition.
