Default Sanella Margarine Ruth Variations

Posted By: don fluckinger

One collector and a German dealer are advocating we delete the Type 4 of the 1932 (or '33, depending on who you believe) Sanellas, on the basis that Type 1 and Type 4s are the same thing.

(I had previously posted information about SGC that was wrong; I misread this collector's email)

In fact, this collector challenges anyone to produce a Type 1 (centered "Sanella" without the "83") because he is certain there is no such thing, and that Type 4 was invented out of some logical supposition that there had to be 4 variations and that no one actually has seen all 4 variations side by side together.

He goes on to claim that anyone who has a Type 1 slabbed by PSA has the "83" and according to PSA's definition is mislabeled and if you sent it in to PSA they'd reslab it a Type 4.

Can anyone verify that there are 4 variations?

Anyone inclined to agree with this gentleman?

I am going to post his whole email and pix illustrating this whole thing on the http://standardcatalog.wordpress.com> blog in a little bit--it'll take me a bit of time, as he presents a long, compelling argument.

Thanks
Don

He's got pix of the backs up now. Can anyone spot differences between the backs of the "Centered Sanella" cards I should be seeing? Thank you

so you will have to excuse me. I see 83 on three of the backs and on only 2 of the flips. Also I think the back scans are not in the same order as the front scans. What has been designated Type 1 and Type 4 appear to be the same.

There is no centered Sanella without the 83.
