Default Swarmee's introduction

Hello.
I'm John Rafferty from the Florida Panhandle. I went to Georgia Tech (hence the swarmee moniker) and collect Yellow Jacket memorabilia, as well as tobacco cards, sports cards, uniforms, ceramics, and I'm working on an entire set of Georgia Tech yearbooks from 1908-2014. I have about 80 so far out of that group, with about 25 duplicates to sell/trade to get the rest. I also moderate the "Georgia Tech Antique Collectors" group on Facebook.

My favorite items in my collection are hand-made cards of members of the 1942 team, including WWII hero Clint Castleberry, who is the only football player ever to have his jersey retired at Tech. I've got over 50 different GT postcards, including printed photo cards (not RPPC) of the 1915 and 1917 football teams.

Aside from GT, I'm collecting the Emblem Series T56 tobacco cards (fraternal orders) and Earl Christy postcards.

Hello John.

It's nice to meet you. Welcome to the best vintage board on the internet. There is a vast amount of knowledge here spread out through the forums by guys who could qualify as experts in the field of vintage.

Good luck with your collecting and look forward to chatting with you on the boards.

btw, my last experience with anything Georgia Tech was when WVU beat you guys in the Gator Bowl in Calvin's last year.

Default Gator Bowl

That's me from that game. For the record, I've never been in the band; just love the crazy uniform.

Welcome to the site, John

My brother and his two sons are all Tech grads and I, therefore, collect related items, but you probably have all I have. Feel free to let me know if there is something particular that you are looking for. I do have the 4-Sport Autographed cards of Nomar, Varitek, and Payton...which I could let go to the right home for the right price. LMK

Happy Collecting,
Raymond

This is the 1917 postcard I have as well. Nice picture of Indian Joe. Might want a high-res scan to make a replica to frame with my autograph of his...

I might be able to do you one better. I think I have the negative for that photo of Joe Guyon and can make another one.

That would be sweet. I'll send you a PM with my address; let me know where I can send payment for shipping/handling.
http://beesball.com/alltime.html has a listing of former Yellow Jackets to play in the bigs. Lavender may have missed the list; I will forward his information to the moderator/sports announcer Richard Musterer.
