Default Vintage Fakes from Bassmaster

Posted By: Paul

Most of you know that Bob Lemke has written a story in SCD about fake '63 Bazookas sold by "bassmaster" on ebay. I wanted to alert the group to be very careful about purchasing W517s on ebay as well.

Awhile back, I posted a thread about some W517s I had purchased that were just a little bit short and had a texture somewhat similar to the R311 leathers. Bob Lemke asked that I send him the cards and he concluded that they are fakes. It turns out that they were sold to me by bassmaster, though not in bassmaster's "FGA" graded holders. The cards had corner damage and, though they were all HOFers, they weren't top notch HOFers like Ruth and Gehrig. So, you can't assume that no one will bother to fake a relatively inexpensive card.

I think Bob will be publishing a follow-up story on the W517s (and some other cards) soon.

Use your real name. Elliot should delete the post, and allow him to post with his real name.

If you do not post your real name, I will assume that you yourself don't believe your own post or have actual facts to back it up.
