Not vintage by any stretch, but mine is a '56T #159 Courtney w/b in PSA 5 or better. For me, toughest card in the set.

In 2009 I quoted Melville and howled at the moon for a Horner cabinet photo of Joe Wood. It had been auctioned previously with a whole passel of Horner Cabs (by Mastro, I believe); I didn't bid hard enough and regretted it. About ten years later the same cab with the same dogbite became available. This time I was ready to sell an appendage if need be. It's visible beneath Mr Kreindler's masterpiece.

Made me a bit sentimental to see the names of some great fellows who are no longer with us. Joe Pelaez was a hobby star; he was a real character. Anthony Stephenson was a sweetheart of a guy with a great sense of humor and a jones for Obaks. Rest in Peace, old friends.

The attachments came up "invalid" for me, Raymond. I also wanted to tell you that I believe your Blankenship PC is the first one I've ever seen from that set for which Leon has the album of prototype photos, which are blank backed. I can't swear that I've never seen another of the postcards over the years, it's possible I have, but after I saw Leon's album I was wondering if the PCs ever got produced and distributed. Have you ever seen another? Great card of the man who scouted and "signed" Walter Johnson!

One of many:
1. WWG DiMaggio that I missed on and a board member got at the time
2. a low pop Ty Cobb or Wagner piece (like a w600, rose comp p/c)

Jay-

Thank you so much for reaching out. That's a lovely Ferguson cabinet! There are a number of non-OJ cabinets of Ferguson that I've seen pictures of, but haven't seen available for trade/sale anywhere.

That post about a Ferguson cabinet was made in 2009. Eight years later, I was able to pick up this beauty and add to my collection

Am delighted I was able to cross off that White Whale from my want list.

My next one may be a bit harder. I think I've now got a desire for a KBats Harry Wright

Interesting that this thread pops back up 10 years later. The white whale I was searching for I landed just a few weeks ago. I don’t know exactly how long I had been searching for it but this thread is 9 or 10 years old now and according to my post I had been searching for years without luck.

While I could name any of several WaJo cards as my whale, being as I am working on a master set of Sam Rice cards, of the Rice cards that I don't have but I know exist, the one I'll likely never have in my collection is his 1917 D350-2 Standard Biscuit card.

Rice version, 1922 Haffner's Bread, 1922 Keating Candy, 1922 Witmor Candy Type 2 (vertical back), 1926 Sports Co. of Am. with ad & blank backs. Also T216 Kotton "NGO" card of Hugh Jennings. Mike,

I'm sure someone can get one signed in the next couple of days and then have a cert for it in the next week or so..... sorry, gotta pile on the signed slabbed card craze...

Thanks Fred, no sweat. That whole T206 scandal really sucks and I'm sure has creeped into other areas. MOST of my 1961s come with stories or provenance but I guess you really never know.

Take care,

Mike

PS SMR magazine is running an article on my personal 1961 set in the February PSA SMR, I was emailed today by PSA about the article. They had called me many months ago and I thought it might never run but its coming soon!

Dan, from that pic, the card is clearly undergraded. What’s the issue that gave it a low grade, because it looks like 5?

You got me. It does have a moderate amount of caramel staining and a wrinkle on the reverse that shows through on the front chest under certain lighting where the card is almost see through due to a caramel stain. Honestly, that's it. PWCC agreed and gave it a "High End" sticker for whatever that's worth, but I bought it from a board member. I consider myself lucky because I couldn't have afforded even a PSA 2 more than likely

There are probably people who could turn that very card into a 7.

One of the nicest looking low grade CJ Cobbs I have ever seen, great eye appeal, trumps the grade.

Marty,

I passed on a Gibson 1904 Montreal PC about 8-10 years ago since it had some condition issues. Haven't seen another.

So it does exist. Wasn't sure if it was in PC form. I've only seen the image in a book. Was the seller on Net 54?

Thanks for the info Patrick.

Marty.

I wonder if this is the first thread re-started after almost a full decade. Wow!

A signed 1953 Topps Howie Fox. Also keeping an especially sharp eye out for Vern Stephens and Dizzy Trout. I was the underbidder on the Trout that Clean Sweep sold a couple years ago, and haven't seen one since. Likewise, I haven't yet seen a Fox or Stephens.

I've always enjoyed Mr. Roarke's version of it:

I guess the one that has gone to the top of my list is the T206 Davidson Drum Back. I have a nice, complete run of Davidson which includes some pretty difficult cards with the exception of a gaping hole where the Drum should be. If I ever find one, I can only hope it's no better than a 2. There an SCG A out there somewhere...maybe it will find it's way into may collection to complete my run.
