What would you as an ebay seller do?

I put some cards on ebay early this morning including some nice D311s and other PCL cards before I discovered today is another dump day (20 cent listing on fixed price listings). My cards are now buried in the listings and I worry that hardly anyone will find them Would you as a seller go ahead and cancel the listings, cancel the bids and relist them on Sunday or just ride them out hoping prospective buyers will stumble across them?

personally I think they will be ok.....I saw them right when you put them up....they are scarce and there will be many bidders.....please don't take my word for it though...i would hate to be the cause of any angst ....(I just wanted to say "angst")

I'd axe it and re-list them after the holidays. I'm waiting to list some cards after
the holidays myself since they usually do much better afterwards.
Example- I had an item on Ebay end last week. (Psa-4mk E90-1 Keeler red throwing).
It sold for hundreds less than I expected, but was at least very happy it did end up
going to a board member. It made the pain much worse.

You should be safe to leave them up. Quality rare cards like this will always do well regardless of the circumstances. I just click on the auctions only tab to filter out the overpriced dealer stock, so I spotted your auctions right away. Besides, there's bound to be some disappointed Mastro bidders with extra cash burning a hole in their pockets. Best of luck.

Usually if I accidentally list right before a dump day, I take auctions down immediately if they have no bidders. If there is a bidder - even for a dollar - I haven't taken them down in the past. But I've thought about it.

With zero bidders it's a no-brainer to me to take the auction down. With more than one bidder it's pretty easy to leave them up. But with one bidder I do have to think about it (although I've always left them up).

It would be solved if ebay gave more notice of dump days so that a person with a few individual cards would know not to list until it's over. Although a lot of people do regular searches, I think even more people keep up by daily browsing. On dump days I think you lose the window shoppers (lots of us, by the way).

But in my case it's always been common tobacco and caramel cards - nothing fancy that would catch anyone's attention.

I'd consider taking them down unless the current bidders and bidding history suggests that they already have the attention they need. If not, I wouldn't rely on them getting a whole lot of additional notice during dump days.

And I know you were asking a genuine question, and not trying to advertise. We've definitely all wrestled with the list-during-dump-days dilemma here before.

Think you'll be fine to ride them out. And don't worry about a lack of bidders this early, most of the bidding won't kick in till last few hours anyway. Watch your number of "watchers" more than the actual bidders this early into the listing...

Dave is right on...

The # of watchers is the key. If that those numbers are looking strong, leave the auctions up. If there are not many "watchers" after 3 days or so, I would cancel the auctions.

My experience with selling (higher end stuff), is that the watchers are far more important than early bidders. The bidders with savvy (and intent to place a serious bid) nearly all wait until the final 10 seconds.

Thanks everybody. I'll leave them up and hopefully not take my lumps. I am glad I only put a small number on to see how they would do and din't put on all my graded Zeenuts and D311s.

What difference does an ebay "dump day" matter to somebody listing D311 cards? Did everybody dump their D311 stock on so your D311 auctions are lost in a sea of D311 listings. Very few people look at every ebay listing in a category hoping to find a D311. They use the search feature if that's what they're looking for. So whether there's 100 or 100,000 items in a category it makes no difference. A search for D311 cards will show them D311.

Red- I partially agree with you, but I know oftentimes I will skim the listings to see what is listed and something unique or scarce catches my eye. I don't use searches in the pre-1930's section except on e94s so the ability to have things pop up during a scroll is important to me.

Yikes! I got shellacked. I will never list another card on dump day on ebay ever again. Cards sold for half to one-third what they usually go for. I know maybe the holiday season or a soft (sorry W) economy played a part but the cards I sold which went off a couple of days before the dump day fiasco did pretty well, so I figure it was the dump day disaster that did it.
I am sooo glad I only put a few cards on and not an entire group...

I think it's just a bad time of year (in addition to the "dump day") I have eleven things going on Ebay right now that are usually pretty popular items. But the number of bids and number of watchers is pathetic to date (as compared to past auctions). It's an Ebay "buyers market" right now, to be sure...

I suppose I'll let them run their course, but am certainly glad I didn't list any super high-end stuff at this time.
