Default Carl Horner Question

I love to group my cards into different categories (pose / set / player / team) and I make different PPT pages with them (have another thread about them).

Recently I was making a Carl Horner portrait page with all my cards with his photos and I wanted to put a picture of him on that page but I can't find any photos of him online. Anyone have a photo of Carl Horner? Here is the start to my Horner tribute page (Johnson photo is from Horner right? I think it is the same pose as the Ramly? ) Thanks.

BTW, great piece on Horner:

There is a photo of Horner and his wife on page 232 of the Henry Yee book on baseball photography.

That Matty image is Benjamin Falk and not Horner.

Also, has the Cobb portrait been definitively attributed to Horner?

Hi Jeff- I've always understood the Cobb portrait to be a Horner...

A quick google search produced several mentions of it, here's one:

I have never seen the actual Horner photo used for Johnson's portrait. Does anyone here have a copy? It sold at Christie's years ago. I contacted them to try to get a scan but they sent me to another company that wanted a ton of money just to send me the listing.

These do not list the photographer, but here are some T206 with the photos used to make them:

Here is the Horner of Johnson that sold in the 1996 Christie's sale. It sold for $3,450 against a $1,000/$1,500 estimate. I was the frustrated underbidder. It has not changed hands since the sale and currently resides in one of the top collections in the country.

That is not in my collection! Oh, sorry, I just noticed you said "one of the top," not "the" top. My bad.

What great Matty cabinets!! Thanks for showing them, Kevin. Horner is still the only thing on my office walls. Just ask Al C. who got a firsthand look recently....

Bryan, out of curiosity, who was the company that Christie's sent you to? Any recollection as to what they were charging?

Would still like to see some definitive proof. Not saying it's not Horner, but auction descriptions aren't enough to convince me.

Greg, I just checked and "ton of money" was a bit of an exaggeration on my part. I had to give my country and my intended use for the image (personal). It was going to be $60 for a high res digital file. I am not sure whether that would have been just the photo or a scan of the listing. I didn't feel like spending $60 for a scan, so I passed. I was sent to:

Bridgeman Images

The lot itself is still online, but it has no images:

Nice photo. Is that a stand alone photo or was it taken from a larger piece? I don't think anyone has done portraits better than Horner.

These Sullivans are all based on a Horner portrait, by the way. The first three are mine, but I don't own the E107 Breisch Williams. Somebody on the board actually owns an original Horner cabinet of him.

Default Horner Cabinet Of OOM Paul Krueger and...

....the controversy vs. Art Kruger that used to swirl around Paul's portrait on a T206. That is until our own Frank sorted it out. I actually have that missing corner piece.
