The SGC one seems more vibrant. Unless the lighting was better

Jeff or others can correct me if wrong, but the 9.5 had overhead, direct lighting whereas the 10 was on a white, semi-transparent illuminated plastic platform that was much dimmer then the 9.5 lighting.

I just took the (sideways) pics posted by someone else and righted them and used basic photoshop filters to make 'em a bit sharper. Unfortunately, I'm stuck at home, a million miles away from the show.

LOL to the thread replies and the images posted.

To adequately compare these two cards they would need to be and deserve to be viewed under the same light or if by an image, done from the same scanner with identical settings. Images pulled from the net or grainy horizontal cellphone pics are almost as great as someone drawing a picture of the two cards.

From the images provided, I like the 9.5 best too. But as stated above... unless they are photographed together and with the same light, it's not exactly "apples to apples".

Plus 1 agree I think the 9.5 looked better in person than the 10 and both locations so packed it was hard to get clean picture in addiction the lighting in each area was not the same

But I am splitting hairs they were both gorgeous and either would be a dream card to have

Default Tilt on DBacks PSA 10?

Is it me, or does the DBacks PSA 10 Mantle have a slight tilt to it? It looks like the left border is slightly wider toward the bottom than it is at the top. Or am I imagining this?

It does but it's very slight IMO.

Default Slight tilt

Should a “gem mint” card have a slight tilt? I thought “gem mint” was supposed to mean flawless, as in a perfect 10.

You really would need the PSA 10 on the left and the 9.5 so you'd have a perfect Type 2 and Type 1. Otherwise, what's the point???

I would guess there was some politics in the grade, and it was also a very early old bar code grade.

Was it earlier in this thread or the one on BO where someone demonstrated the SGC 9.5 has a tilt too. Not to defend the 10 with a tilt but how many 52 T Mantles in any grade do not have some tilt? The 52 set was plagued with that flaw.

All are amazing cards, but each have flaws. The DBacks PSA 10 has muddy Yankees lettering and a wobbly top horizontal bar containing Mick's sig. The PSA 10 in old holder is slightly off center, with a smaller space of the boarder to the top edge of the card vs larger space at bottom edge. The 9.5 has slight discoloration/staining at boarder to top edge of card, as has been discussed.

It seems like the 3rd PSA10 has been hiding from the internet for the past 30 yrs. No such image can be found on the internet.

I find the tilt on the PSA 10 to be way harder on my eye than the toning/stain on the SGC 9.5. I would therefore prefer the latter all day, and I am someone who does not give a flipping flip about the Coke vs Pepsi of SGC vs PSA. I despise all TPG opinions equally, buy the card, and have holders from both companies in my collection

What do you think PSA would have graded the SGC one?

Probably a 9 but I honestly don’t think the candiotti/Kendrick copy or the third one would get a ten anymore. All the nicely centered Rosen find copies are beautiful cards. Any reasonable collector would be thrilled to own any of them.

Which is the one that Peter Garcia owned for a while?

The 9.5 also has that black dot in the middle of the bottom border.

I am now recalling that the Garcia one is indeed the one whose whereabouts are (publicly anyhow) unknown, and that Peter bought it from Craig Roehrig although I am not 1000 percent sure.
