Default Walter Johnson Card and Related Piece

Just picked this up in a trade, wanted to see if anyone else had ever seen one before. Also, wondering if this would be regarded by the hobby as an actual card or as an advertising piece? It's postcard size, and the paper is card or postcard stock. I'm also posting pictures of another piece I have with the same artwork, from a calendar produced by the Faithorn Company in 1912. My piece has been cut out of the larger calendar, and I had no idea what it was until a full calendar of another player popped up on eBay several years ago. Anyone seen another of those, by any chance? I can't decipher the name of the artist other than the last name, which I think is Brompton. The first initial could by "J." This same artwork was used for a Crack-A-Jack uniform salesman's sample book page from around the same time.

I had a pretty good head start! But I do love the collectible stuff, too, especially display pieces I can put on the wall and look at all the time. A lot of them are not particularly valuable, like my collection of WJ Associated News Service broadsides (I have seven different, most from 1924) and rotogravure Sunday newspaper supplement full pages devoted to him or the '24 and '25 world series), but I love them just the same or more than some others worth big bucks. Or course, I treasure the personal stuff, too. I'm asked all the time about what autographed material I have, and I joke that I have a bunch of letters, but they aren't worth very much because they're either signed just "Walter" or "Dad"--to my grandmother and mother. It's great fun for me to be the grandson of Walter Johnson, but it helps to be into this stuff, too, including the history. I have thirteen first cousins on that side, and as far as I can tell not one of them could really care less about any of it.

I've never seen this card before either. Very nice piece -- and for $5.00?? lol

I'm putting together a Senators (1901-1961) and Twins (1961-1991) card type collection. Please feel free to post more scans of some of these "oddball" items!

Best of luck finding the story behind this one!

FWIW, $50.00, not $5.00
