Default Are these of any interest or worth please?

Posted By: Richard

I have recently been given a large box of cigarette cards, all the dated ones seem to be 1880s-1890s and include bathing belles, horses, filmstars etc. Amongst the collection are about 40 baseball cards. I have absolutely no idea about these things so would appreciate any info. Sadly they appear to have been glued onto an album page or something and have later been cut out with the backing still on the cards which I imagine will affect their value. 6 samples in pic.

The names arent clear in the pic, they are:

Arundel, catcher Indiannapolis.
Richardson 2nd base, NY.
O'Brien, 1st base, Washington
Denny 3rd base, Indiannapolis.
Anson, 1st base, Chicago
Keefe, Pitcher, NY

Thankyou.

Unfortunately the borders have been cut off, which will hurt the values even more.

I know the Buchner's are trimmed and therefore not worth a whole lot, but I'd still be interested in some of them if you wanted to send me a list of what you had I'll make you an offer.

Have attached the only boxers I could find in the collection, they are part of a sportsmen series. Not sure the last guy is a boxer but included him anyway.

The names are

John M Ward
Ike Weir
Jack Mcauliffe
J H McLaughlin ( No idea,)
Charles Comiskey ( oops, not a boxer!)

Hello,

Could you either post a listing of all the baseball cards in the collection or send it to me via E mail?

Thanks,

David

If you give me an address or fax number I will get you "values" from the 2005 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards.

--Your cards to have decent value, despite being trimmed. The ones with the white backgrounds are N28 Allen & Ginters, and the others are Buchner Gold Coins....complete listings of both can be found in Lemke's Standard Catalogue of Baseball Cards. You've got a good number of hall of fame players...those are the ones in bold print above. IMO, the bolded cards could get you anywhere between $40-$125 apiece, depending on condition and player appeal. The Anson card is particularily notable. As for the other cards, probably $15 or less apiece for the most part, although the baseball players almost always sell for more than the other sports. Hope this will help a bit

Thanks for that info Ben. Aston Martin will have to wait then!

I shall scan them all sometime in the next few days. If anyone wants to see the full collection just email me and I will circulate them. I may put them on Ebay.

Hi again,

When the cards are scanned, could you send me one-- Davidsmith1@excite.com. Living in Indianapolis, I would be interested in the Indianapolis players.

Also, could you send a scan of the Duke actress cards??

Thanks again,

David
