Most prized Vandy piece
Paul,
That is a tough choice, to be honest. That being said, I have a few pieces that are favorites. They are: Graig Kreindler Vandy original painting Vandy's personal copies of both of his 1938 contracts from the year he pitched his back-to-back no-hitters. I successfully reunited these guys from two different sources after many years Lois (Stewart) Vander Meer's (wife of Vandy) personal scrapbook from 1937-1943 that includes her ticket from Vandy's historic 2nd consecutive no-hitter 1939 Goldsmith Vander Meer endorsed mitt & box featuring Vandy artwork The 1938 signed baseball that I showed a couple of posts ago in this thread The circa 1938 Vandy pennant that I own (Many thanks to net54's Chris Gamble for allowing me to add the last two items to my collection) 1938 NY Sunday News color Vandy poster that I framed with an original celebration snapshot from Vandy's 2nd consecutive no-hitter (1st night game @ Brooklyn Dodgers) Vandy items that I would love to be able to add to my collection at this point: Anything Vandy game used from the Reds (Holy Grail: Vandy rookie jersey) Vandy double no-hitter pennant from 1938 (it exists, but I don't own one) A scored program from Vandy's 1st no-hitter on 6/11/38 @ Cinci A ticket with a printed date from Vandy's 1st no-hitter Both of Vandy's personal last out balls from Vandy's back-to-back no-hitters Probably untouchable now that Rush's Geddy Lee now owns them, BTW. The Graig Kreindler Vandy original painting is probably my favorite that he's done. Love everything about it. BTW, I think your assessment is correct about the last out balls. I think the only way to get those out of Geddy's hands is to hope he goes bankrupt (not likely) or that you have something to trade that he really needs. |

Might be my favorite of any of his masterpieces. The Vandy is truly brilliant. He did a Jackie Robinson Painting that (for me) is right up there as well. Those are my two favorites. Oh, and the big Red Machine starting line-up panorama is right up there as well. And I almost forgot the incredible Matty from the Conlon image. And what about the amazing Honus Wagner with the stadium backdrop? That's one is just as spectacular... Ok, so it's impossible to pick just one. But the Vander Meer is just as great as any of them. Great stuff, Scott! |
