Default Vintage U of Nebraska Baseball Cap?

Posted By: Keith

I picked up this vintage baseball cap at an estate auction a few days ago that had a bunch of Nebraska ephemera including some baseball programs. The bidding for the programs got too high for me and I bailed out but I really wish I could have looked through them. The cap is a vintage red cap that shows some age, that looks to have a professionaly handstitched N on the front. The tag shows wear but is readable and reads" since 1838? E. Rosenstein Sons, Rochester NY, Cino-Rubber Visor, Showered Pre-Shrunk 100% wool fabric. The cap is fitted and there is a tag that could be a size tag but it is worn and no writing is present on it.
My questions are: can anyone help me date this cap? Could this be a U. of Nebraska game cap? Would teams get their caps from suppliers such a good distance away?
thanks guys

Does not look like any "N" I have seen on any of my vintage Husker baseball photos....could be a cap that a fan made? What kind of programs were at the sale and what years were they from?

Dan, they were U of Nebraska programs and if I recall they dated to the late 50s, but not certain - that is why I wish I had gone through them more closely, but I arrived at the auction just as they were starting and missed the preview. It maybe a coincidence that the programs were there, but I figured I would pick the Nebraksa baseball expert brains on the forum here

Yes, Brock, sorry meant to reply to that message. They were at a different auction. I go to about 4-5 estate auctions per week (despite my wife's constant request for an auction intervention). I didn't get any of the bats. In addition to the 2 Hanna Bats, there was also a Spalding mushroom bat. The Hanna Batrite bats did have the Bat brand, and if I recall the Goslin bat went for $400, the Hornsby went for $375, and the Spalding Mushroom for I believe $425.

Dan
I think the Goslin may have been game used, the hornsby was only 33 inches. But like you said dan they went really cheap.

Yep, they both had the bat brand. The Hornsby had been cracked at some point, but had been repaired with period nails. I was an underbidder, but dropped out. The winner was a phone bidder, and I have a feeling, if the floor bidding kept going, so would the phone bidder. I should have went higher, but I don't know much about the value of vintage bats.
