Default Hockey & Baseball-2 Items-Need Help.............

Posted By: jakoll

I have two items I need help with identifying years, approximate value etc.

First is a baseball game pocket size with dice and a stack of cards in a foldover cardboard sleeve with instructions and dice. The game cards are in a stack of about 20 or so didn't count...unused. The stack is held together with serations but the first two cards have been separated.

Hap Day lived about 15 minutes from me when I was growing up. Too bad I was too young to realize that, as I had a couple of his 1930's cards which would have been great to get signed. Day ended up signing a bunch of paperwork as an executive, some of which has surfaced in the hobby, but precious few attractive pieces were ever signed. He was too old to do card shows by the time that they become en vogue, and I'm certain that nobody had the foresight to conduct a private signing with him. I still have a hard time forgiving myself for my juvenile ignorance, but, hey, I was only 12 when he passed away.

I wish I had all those cards I used to keep as sets. They were only tossed in 1972 when I got married. 9 shipping crates. Cards from all major sports since 1952....kept neat. Brother worked for a major store and used to bring me a box every week. I think a box ranged in price from $1.50 to 2.00 or something like that.

Hi, we responded to this on the eBay forum where you first posted it... both very cool items you've got.

The Neddy baseball game is popularly dated to about 1910, which seems about right give or take a couple of years. It's pretty scarce, so there's no track record of sale/auction prices on it of which we're aware. We'd guess somewhere around $75.-$150., but prices for games can be all over the map, so it could go for half that estimate or three times as high.

We're unaware, however, of any card set accompanying that game -- our best info (perhaps it wasn't all that good) was that it was strictly a dice game. Are you sure the cards belong to the Neddy, or could they be from some other game and were merely tucked into it? Can you add a scan of the front and back of a couple of the cards?
