Default another question- on Coupons

Posted By: leon

OK folks,
Sorry to bomb ya'll with questions but here is another one. I just got 4 Coupon-types in the mail from Larry Fritsch. They are t213-1 of Huggins hands at mouth and Huggins Portrait.....both are in about good with only slight chipping on the front of the protrait and some pretty heavy creasing on both. They look good and present pretty good but rough....if you know what I mean.....on the t213-3's I got Marquard and Jennings....Marquard is solid gd -vg and the Jennings is a pretty solid good....but could be "about" good.....I know these are more scarce than hen's teeth.....and very tough to find....I bought them for about $130.00 ea.......since they are not quite up to the grade I saw in the catalogue (never have been) I am thinking of returning one or some.....will probably keep them all though.....what do ya'll think these things are worth in the shape they are in?.....true market value, not book......best regards again !!

Leon, one thing ive learned is Fritsch almost always overgrades and his prices are high for the grade he describes....go to www.gfg.com,he has a large listing of T213 cards including ones that you just bought, from dealing with him,i learned his prices are fair, and he grades more accurate....i never understood how Fritsch could grade a card EX w/punch hole or 1 corner nipped

Just spoke to Dave again. It's been about 4-5 years. I called him once when I had just started this obsession. I got a Bender Type-1 and am sending 2 back to Larry. He can sell them to the next person and deal with his "grading" again.....best regards

leon, the type 1's are by far the toughest to find in nice condition. the type 3's are also scarcer than the the type 2's but don't seem to be hard to find in top grade, a recent mastro auction had a group lot of hofers and lipset's auction had 5 hofers in a lot all appearing ex or better and it only brought $369 +/-. it even included speaker. i thought you got a type 1 chase from me at the national but it must have been someone else, kinda wish i had saved it. the other rarity is the type 3 with the factory 8 overprint, again scarce but available.

I've had the overprints in the 3's and other 3's that were in great shape. The 3's are cut much tighter and seem to be on stronger paper than the 1's or 2's. The 2's are pretty common for T213's but still so much rarer than T206's. It's so hard to find a 2 that doesn't have any of the crackling. I have about 60-70 of the 2's and a couple of 1's and 3's I got in a Festberg auction. Not high quality but still neat cards...............

no, i don't i believe tbob had one at one time and sold or swapped it, however, i could be mistaken he had a large group of type 3's. that would be a very elusive card, actually any type 3 with the overprint is tough. i was lucky enough to procure a e-94 cobb with a opie dildock back last year however. another toughie in my opinion. cobb is tough enough let alone with one of the scarce overprint backs.

Leon, with the cash you spend - I would have thought the overprints would be your T213's of choice...

...in a lot for $270, one with the overprint. I couldn't figure out what the overprint was worth from the SCD catl'g or Lipset's book, so I gave up at $265. I know nothing about this issue, but the overprint back was real sharp (in my opinion)

as soon as I finish my type collection I will start on the overprints seriously though if I see one that tickles my fancy then I will probably go for it, depending on cost.....with my business, and the economy, I have had to scale my purchases back a little.....regards
