Default 1914-1917 Minor League Pennants

Hi everyone. I'm hoping you guys can help answer some questions I have about some pennants. They are minor league pennants of teams that I'm told were from the Central Association. I'm pretty sure they were from the 1914-1917 area but I'm not sure exactly what year they were made. They were kept between cardboard and are in great shape. Any idea as to the value of these? How about the Reading one that is in bad shape? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kary

Here's the link to the Central Association http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...e=CENA&class=C at baseball-reference.com

It looks like 1916 was the only year with Ottumwa

I know there are some other pennant collectors aboard that may not have seen this post, so am bumping for my good friend & new Board member Kary! Please help if you can--I know he'll appreciate it very much!

These are terrific pennants. Although they represent towns with teams, the generic nature of the graphics and the absence of team names and graphics really limit the value. What is the overall length? Oversized pennants from the teens (34" plus not including tassels) have more value that traditional sizes.

That being said, these would probably sell in the $40-$50 range each (for those without damage). Sold as a group representing the entire league in a large auction, they should do better as collectors of that league may want the set.

Thanks for posting these.

Ottumwa Iowa is where Radar O'Reilly was from.

Anyone have any information on the Rhodes,Charlotte and Davenport pennants? It appears they were not from the Central Association like Ottumwa,Clinton,Muscatine,Dubuque and Fort Dodge. I see that the Davenport Blue Sox were from the 3I league(Illinois-Indiana-Iowa) but I can't find anything on these other 2.

I actually saw Radar O'Reilly at an antique arms show a few weeks ago. I believe he deals in antique Colt firearms. Sort of neat...

I am going to be listing these pennants on ebay starting around 10:00 EST Saturday 11/14. Any suggestions of keywords that should be in my title or description? I do plan on listing the approximate years for the Central Association pennants which I have narrowed down pretty good. I will have the length included too. I will have 3 or 4 scans of each pennant. Thanks for all the help.

Any keywords I should have included in the title that I missed? I thought there would be a little more bidding at this point.

Kary---

You should put a link to your auctions here--Even I don't know your EBay ID!

Fred, here's a link to the auctions...

Kary, you may be disappointed in the ending prices on these as they are generic and short of having a picture of fans in the stands at a game waving these pennants they just don't hold a lot of interest for pennant collectors if they can't be tied to baseball.

Hopefully you end up with a result that satisfies you. Ebay is tough to watch. It's seven days of exposure and ten seconds of action.

I am curious why you are selling them individually? I would think that they would have a lot more interest as a group. Not to mention the ebay fees would be lower.

william,
I listed them seperately because only 5 of the 8 are from the same league. I thought having the other 3 in the lot might hurt. Maybe I should have put the 5 in a lot. The total listing fees for my 8 auctions was less $4. Most of them were a free listing and I didn't pay anything for the pictures.

I relisted these pennants since they ended Sat. 11/21 when ebay's search feature wasn't working. I previously thought these were baseball pennants because they were purchased by a minor league player while he played during the 1914-1917 time period. I am pretty sure now that they are actually Souvenir Town Pennants. I am posting this so that anyone who was previously interested in these items knows that they are up for auction again.

Fred,
The auctions overall are looking better. With 5 days to go there are still 3 w/o a bid but 2 of them are over $12 and $18. I think it helped that I figured out exactly what they were and put them in the category you suggested. Thanks.
