Default Need Help on the Value of a Piece- Bresnahan

Posted By: jamie

I've been offered this matchbook cover from Roger Bresnahan's run at Sheriff. Anyone seen this before or have a fair idea of value?

I have never seen it before but condition is poor, it is simply just a matchbook cover without any matches and there is no picture. I would be surprised if this had any value whatsoever.

Default Need Help on the Value of a Piece- Bresnahan

I collected matchcovers for years, amassing an all-too-large amount of them.

First of all, it does not really matter that the matches are missing, as most matchcover collectors do not collect full books, for both space and safety concerns. Unfortunately, the value of a matchcover is reduced when the striker (where the matches are ignited) is used or (even worse), in your case, removed ("bobtailed" in matchcover parlance).

It's still an interesting association item which would have more value to a baseball memorabilia collector than a matchcover collector. I can't see it being worth more than $10-20, however. Just an educated guess.

I think it has value... and I think Jodi has it pegged correctly. I was thinking I'd pay about $10 or $15 for it, and I'm tight. So someone out there might pay $20 or so for it, if you eventually found them.

Somewhere, maybe here, years ago, someone was trying to figure out who all depicted in T206 also ran for political office. That fellow might pay $20 for it.

I think it's cool. I'd pay $20 for it easy.
